Has there even been a fighter like Jeff Lacy before he fought Calzaghe?

Look I've said it my previous posts. Of course its crazy (especially a fan like myself) to say Lacy was a powerful as Tyson or as quick as Mayweather. That's just ****ing stupid.

What is stupid though is those idiots who were actually saying it and believing it.

At that time, Joe Calzaghe was seen as a protected champion who fought nobodies. Nobody knew how talented he really was. A theoretical 168 prime Tyson would absolutely be a ridiculously high favorite against him.

There are some people who think Manny Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of all time and some people who genuinely believe that Floyd Mayweather is better than Sugar Ray Robinson. Very vocal minority not to be taken seriously.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. While Lacy may have been seen as some fearsome ogre over there in the UK, I can assure you that 99% of astute American fans realized that he wasn't an invincible killing machine. That isn't to say that we didn't overhype him, but the vast majority of us did not believe that he was going to become the most dominant fighter on the planet for years to come.

I dumped the Scene after comments on this fight mainly because it was "wtf?"

I have to hold my hands up and say I haven't been able to find the odds, so I have emailed a friend who covered the fight for a broadcast and asked him if he can remember.

The 99% of boxing writers and experts who picked him to crush Calzaghe sure believed he was a Prime Mike incarnation

At the time, I thought they were crazy though I admit I thought he would beat Calzaghe boy was I wrong lol. People really need to stop comparing Lacy to Tyson I never saw a comparison other than in physique. I knew Jeff wouldn't be another Tyson and to this day I laugh about it like when people called Judah a "Whitaker with power" lol. Now alot of people hyped up Alexander to be on top of p4p lists*sigh*. When will people learn to see fighters grow before calling them "future legends" or saying they will "rule p4p lists"?

it's funny that two fights you mention were BIG rip off's in america.

ward vs kessler: ward cheated the whole fight and the ref was crooked.

mayweather vs hatton: joe cortez doing the biggest rip off job i've ever seen.

the only way the yanks can win anything these days, is to rip you off and cheat.

    "only in america"!!!!

:lol::lol: you obviously were not a member here before the fight.9 out of 10 General forum members picked Lacy.the Calzaghe schooling and fighting on with a torn rotator cuff against Tsypko ruined him.

the announcers on the buildup said "he's being compared to a young mike tyson"

    so calm the **** down.

and you others, calzaghe WAS the betting underdog (insane as that is), lacy WAS expected to destroy him, and lacy DID look very good early in his career. and calzaghe did ruin him, he was what, 21-0 before being absolutely humiliated, out-classed and beaten up in front of the world, when he was supposed to be a world champion boxer.

and lol at Shaw in the last five secs calling for the towel to go in.
