I love Mike too, but he couldn't fight going backwards. He existed in an era went a former LHWY was the true HWY belt holder. Just because Veagas and AC ran the sport and set odds, doesn't support your agreement. Rember Ali SHUCK UP THE WORLD, Douglas said THERE HE GOES, your made-up superman, on his ass.

    i'll put it this way

liston was not unbeatable . as his record proved b4 he met with Clay, was he the betting favorite by a heavy margin? yes.
but his loss did not shock the world to it's core.

take Rjj loss for example . when was sparked by Tarver in 2 rounds that was a amjor upset but not a turn the world upside down inside out type of loss.

Rjj for all his brilliance had been deemed super human he hardly lost a round up until his first fight with tarver. but he had shown he wasn't unbeatable ( when fustraded he could be his own worst enemy as proved in the 1st griffin fight.) Tyson's loss to Dougales made the impossible possibel tyson was a wrecking machine . lets just say it has become the scale that all boxing upsets are graded on.

Clay Shook up the world Douglas turned it upside down and inside out.

it was like if Bobby fisher lost a champion chess match to a checkers champion :good

it's like barak Obama winning the presidency in 1850:nut

    exactly highly unlikey.

this is boxings biggest upest in history at the moment

A very good post. When I saw it live, I was like wow!. Buster definitely had the skills to win, and he rose to the occassion that night. Nobody saw this coming. Nobody knew that Buster was fighting for his Mom either.

Second to me is Ali beating Liston imo. Liston was just a diesel dude with like 15 inch fists, and a left hook that made Henry Cooper's hook seem like a love tap.

  6. :good Back in 65 the media was even afraid that Sonny was gonna kill Ali, Ali was just a young boy, Sonny was a thuggish 30 ish man/beast, Ali would have probaly lost the fight hadn't angelo cheated and ripped open Ali's glove:huh..
Tyson was hyped up by the media, he had no business being a 42-1 fav, after struggling with Tillis, Tucker and having problems with tall fighters, Douglas was 6-4, Tyson was 5-10, and Douglas didn't give a **** nothing Mike could do to him, than the pain of losing his Mom..

Stop avoiding the facts. Mike was a made for TV fighter ( boy do we need one now). Went Lennox crowned him in Memphis. It was always knowned that Mike was more smoke then fiction. I'm not saying I picked Buster, but their was always a chance a tall skilled fighter that came to fight would stop Mike with a jab and strong uppercut. And thats what happen. But if you want true boxing knowlegeable people to accept what TV executives want to sell us, your right the odds said it was the biggest upset in boxing history. But, in reality it was what it was, a well-trained fighter, which Dougals was, came to fight. And it was what it was

Unless I'm mistaken - Douglas' win over Tyson was chosen as upset of the century so that pretty much sums it up.

I was in elementary school at the time of Tyson's peak. I didn't watch boxing - but you would hear about Tyson on the news, talk shows, the radio, etc. I was a fan without ever seeing him throw a punch. Weird how that works.

Sorry, but Mike spent 3 years and prison, and came out a bum. Lennox didn't beat Tyson, Tyson beat himself long before he got in the ring with Lennox.

Mike didnt fight going backwards because he rarely had to! And if he had been in shape with Rooney training him, buster would have hit the canvase within 4 or 5 rounds.
Tyson threw 12 punches in 3 rounds in that fight and even though he was getting his ass beat and he was tired.....he still managed to drop Buster in the 8th round with his back to the ropes!
For buster to even KTFO Tyson it took him over 800 punches to do so, and this was against a fighter who by all accounts went to the gym in Tokyo ONE day!

I was traveling in Texas when i heard it on the radio that he lost.......I had to literally pull the car over I was so shocked.
