Everyone knows all about boxing, so much more than me, yet I was the only one able to explain anquity, what the russians were up to, where boxing came from in all it's different forms, how it became a defense sport, even what lineal actually ****in' means and that's a goddamn walk in the park. Speaking of walks in the park this whole ****in' forum doesn't seem to understand how about posture and positions? Aprently I'm the only mother ****er on the forum who knows what a kinematic chain is as well. Rough and tumble means what to you? ****in' exactly. And that's just the **** I can remember to brag about, but yeah, not **** about boxing because I think Deontay Wilder is one of best HW ever from a technical perspective. Not everyone is playing Mendoza's boxing just most. Judging Wilder off Mendoza's criteria is missing the point. Explaining Mendoza's affect on boxing would have taken way more words than this and you wouldn't have been inclined to believe I'm any less crazy so **** that.

So there you go, I disagree with youse rabble of dumbshits both fan and hater alike claiming Deontay Wilder doesn't know how to box. He's something else. I'm not a huge fan of him but the guys power is uncanny. It's pretty much going to bail him out of anything related to skill. But the nonsense about his chin, to me anyways, is not exactly on point. He puts himself in positions throwing all them wild(er) shots like he does but he was hit with some pretty sturdy blows from Ortiz and Stiverne first fight.

 

His team have done an AMAZING job of matchmaking.

Guy literally took zero risks and just waited until an easy title shot came up. Won, then defended against zero risk opposition.

He was eventually FORCED to fight povetkin although they dragged it out as long as possible. Luckily he failed the test.

Then back to no hopers and just waiting around looking to maximize that AJ payday.

If Ortiz goes on to do nothing (as i suspect) then wilder has had the WORST multiple year title run that I can remember.

It amazes me that he has fans, and it amazes me even more that people think he actually wants a legacy fight vs AJ and not just as much $$$ as possible which is obviously the case

Different styles and physical traits but a hw with huge power but limited skills and regularly got outboxed before landing the ko shot was Rocky Marciano…49-0, pretty good record…

 

He just an extreme example of what I've always said about boxing in general, but specially the heavyweight division.
You can get by, by just having a couple of pure natural gifts that can't or hardly be trained. In his case, length and power.
If you combine that with a couple of other things, like his akwardness, movement and athletic abilty, you don't need skill. Certainly when you can basically pick your opponents, instead of having to fight actually legit mandatories.

Rocky was another good example @exumspate

 

He's a pretty unique fighter in that regard. You've had fighters in the past who you'd know would be out boxed, take hard shots, but their durability, persistence and pressure would see them overwhelm their opponents eventually. But Wilder doesn't fit that mold, he's about not taking shots, not pressuring, not winning rounds and trying to ambush an opponent with one big shot or two and hope to swing the fight his way by just winning 5% of the fight.

Reality is it's a style he has had to adopt because he simply doesn't have the fundamentals or the skills to box with any competent boxer and come out on top and his fans have in a perverse way embraced his lack of ability and twisted it into some kind of positive lol.

But it's worked for him so far, though against very limited and carefully picked opposition. Even his best win vs Ortiz was a very calculated risk where they picked the highest ranked opponent who looked the worst in recent fights, that along with his age made it a perfect fight to look good if you can gloss over his apparent decline with age.
