Has there ever been a more destructive puncher than Terry McGovern at his weight?

He was on the downside but i wouldnt say he was washed up. Austin hit pretty hard but Marquez probably hit as hard. Junior Jones also hit very hard at Bantam.

Olivares,Zarate and Zamora are a tier higher than all those guys when it comes to punching power.

Records at time of meeting McGovern

    Tim Callahan 6-1-7 & 5-1-5 & 4-1-5 held him to a draw ,won 1 and lost 1.
Austin Rice 9-3-12 Lost more than won
Casper Leon 35-4-14 won about 66%
    Eddie Santry 22-4-4[more respectable]
Tommy White 34-5-30 lost more than won
Dave Sullivan 23-5-16 about 50% wins
    Oscar Gardner quality win

Look at the resumes of a good half of McGovern's opponents they are distinctly average,or below average.

Not sure if it's the best of ideas to use boxrec to determine the records of fighters from the 1800's to be honest. Don't confuse wins with draws, Casper Leon was actually 35-4, Tommy White was 34-5. Good records even by today's standards.

No one denies Box rec is fallible, but what do we have that is better?

    On rechecking.
I have Leon on 34 wins out of 55 fights when he met McGovern, draws are not losses ,neither are they wins.

White won 34 lost 5-30 draws my mistake
Have you additional info that makes mine incorrect?

BoxRec doesn't also take newspaper decisions into account when listing records. Tim Callahan had atleast 20 fights before meeting McGovern. He held a 6 round win over Mysterious Billy Smith, who was seen as one of the best fighters of the late 1800's. He had also participated in atleast one 20 round fight.

Box rec gives won or lost for NWS decs, when it has the info.
