When you watch films of the old Foreman fights it is astonishing to see just how strong this man was in the pre-PED days ... I wonder who if anyone was ever stronger that was not on juice ...

His natural power was unbelievable! I dont believe anyone has ever been stronger but there has been plenty of HW's with great power. I dont know if guys like Morrison or Lewis ever indulged in PED's but they had great power. As did Tyson. For his size his power was astonishing!!

I agree but they were far less sophisticated and prevalent ... that being said I have no interest in this spinning into a pubic hair splitting argument over the drugs of the day .. Foreman was born this way and man was he a physical marvel.

Foreman was a California style weight lifter mostly arms, he was ahead of his times but suffered with his wide swinging and lack of stamina....but Foreman was strong

There may be a few guys in his bracket, but none come to mind whom I would call physically stronger. A very powerful man. As I've said before on this board, the poster Rockyssplitnose met Holyfield recently at a dinner, and according to Holyfield George was the strongest guy he ever faced.

In some photos, his huge arms and shoulders are really highlighted well. I mean the 70's version.
I recall in the Morrison fight, at some point (I cannot remember the round, but one of the later ones) he shoved Morrison back, and Tommy, who was hardly a weak man, literally flew backwards into the ropes.

Sometimes aspects of certain fighters are exaggerated to the point of being more myth than reality but in George's case, his strength was very real. It also speaks volumes for Ali's own strength that he was for the most part able to handle George in the clinches.

I remember watching the Morrison fight, jeez it was a long time ago, and George looked like the physically superior man even thou he was 20 years older:yep, but that was Morrisons night and he just outboxed George all the way to the end..

In the rumble in the jungle Ali looked physically stronger than George, and even man handled him during some points during the fight, George looked like the weaker man in the ring that fight...:deal

A long time ago I read where Jess Willard was perhaps the strongest HW of all time. Being a big farm boy must have helped him develop that strength. Of course, lifting power does not necessarily translate to punching power. But I bet he packed a very good wallop, too.

Ya I wouldnt go as far to say George was the weaker guy in that fight. They were both in phenomenal shape and Ali took some serious punishment to be able to accomplish what he did! Slicker but not stronger..
