I mean in the U.S., of course, as this holiday is observed on different days worldwide (and in many places not at all, or not in a similar way).

Just curious of anyone can think of a case of it happening.

Jack Johnson had 2 fights on Thanksgiving Day while he was in Leavenworth ... the Warden scheduled the fights for a crowd of a couple thousand people .. state officials , hundreds of reportes ... It was a big event

The only one I can think of that came close was Wlad-Fury, which took place the Saturday after. We were still visiting at my parents' house. I convinced some relatives to watch it with me. Not a fight that wowed anyone. But they all remember Fury singing afterward.;)

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving isn't always on the 25th. I don't know if there's a search engine that lets you search for boxing matches held on the fourth Thursday in November of each year.

Holmes-Cobb was the day after Thanksgiving. Howard Cosell was supposedly annoyed about having to spend Thanksgiving away from his family. When informed of this important situation, Cobb responded, "I know. I got a thank-you note from his wife."

You'd need to manually enter each date on boxrec. It might take an hour, but it's doable.

Balboa had a habit of big holiday fights:

    1) He fought Apollo Creed to a split decision loss on Jan. 1, 1976, in a title bout booked on that day to be the first major sporting event of the Bicentennial (I guess the college bowl games didn’t count, haha).

    2) As you noted, rematch was on Thanksgiving.

    3) Fought Ivan Drago in an unsanctioned fight on Christmas Day in Russia.
