in the days of old when there was one belt, or WBA, WBC, IBF, or WBO ?

Elcock won some tip pot strap but Im talking one of the "proper-ish" ones

I can remember the odd challenger

Pat "what the **** was that" Cowdell v Sanchez and Nelson
    Rob McCracken v Keith Holmes
    Howard Clarke v Fernando Vargas
    Wayne Elcock v Abraham

my pal Richie Woodhall from Telford I reckon is the nearest geographically, although Im hoping someone knows to one that I dont, for a massive city I'm amazed weve never produced a world champ

Mike Tyson was born in Handsworth and Cassius Clay in Sparkhill.

    Chris Pyatt from Leicester?

Woodhall beats Pyatt by being 10 miles closer to brum.

Randy Turpin was from Leamington...right? Leamington is closer to brum than telford so woodhall is out the picture as he was a more legit champ than woodhall.

Surely that honour belongs to Randy Turpin. (And he was the REAL champion!)

:D Yup just as I mentioned in my post (a couple above yours).

True he was a REAL champ not a dodgy champ with a belt who was always injured and even got put down by crappy Beyer.

Lozells and Handsworth same-ish kinda area, Lozells is a small area of Handsworth.

Im in Kingstanding, and weve produced Anthony Hanna, who is a 100+ fight journeyman flyweight, he's fought Damaen Kelly, and Ian Napa. and our estate produced Chris Lyons a journeyman featherweight who fought Esham Pickering, and Jason Booth.

the latest from my area is a young lad by the name of Chris Truman 2-0 at the moment, looks a good prospect, fightong at lightweight, made his debut against the well travelled Karl Taylor and won on points

I don't think he was ever world champ, I'm sure he gets mentioned in "best Brit not to win a world title" type articles....
