Very true but I don't think there is an active fighter today who beats Prime Ali,Foreman,Holyfield,Tyson,Joe Louis etc.

 

Helenius looks like crap
Povetkin : Good stamina and punch output... kinda looks like crap sometimes.
Haye : Good punch, but he throws 4 of them per rounds... No jab.
Adamek : Great heart, featherfisted at HW
Eddy Chambers : Great technique, feather fisted, fat.
Samuel Peters : Fat, no technique, heavy handed.
Ruslan Chagaev : Shot
Chris Arreola : fun to watch... not much else.
Odlianer Solis : solid boxer, fat.

I think the klitchkos are really good. I also like Chambers and Solis. Povetkin would trouble anyone with his output. Other than that there's not much to praise. It's not a good era because there's not a lot of technically good HW out there.

 

Apparently this Sosolid character would have us believe it's the norm to have 2 ATG's active as the belt holders as well as a string of olympic gold medal winners as challengers. No, no I really don't think he's that much of a clown which clearly means he's doing the former I've quoted before.

Not really, the above all actually happened. You should try watching some heavyweight fights now and again from this era, you might actually enjoy it.

 

I watched both Chisora fights this year and enjoyed both :smooch

I also enjoyed Wlad/Haye, Vitali/Solis for a round and Vitali/Adamek.

Povetkin vs Braswell (I think that's his name) was decent also

 

The only competitive match up I see is prime Tyson agains the green, pre-Stewart Wlad. That's it, every one else prime for prime gets schoolled by Ks.

 

I always get cracks watching 70's heavies especially Foreman. Slow and crude like molasses :yep:yep

 

Half of the guys you mentioned don't even fight anymore. How are they from this era?

A big problem is that many of these fighters will come to the surface having feasted on obscure opponents in the backwaters of their home, get a decent amount of hype, get a title shot, then simply vanish once they're beaten. Gomez, Brock, Johnson, and Solis are all boxers who came from nowhere, then returned to nowhere after they lost. There was never an opportunity to prove they were *good* by fighting other contenders.

Take your own list, for example. I think IF you matched the guys on your list up with all of the other guys on your list, you actually COULD have had a good boxing era. I would have loved to see Byrd vs. Brock, or Johnson vs. Chambers, or Solis vs. Gomez, or Peter vs. Arreola. There were literally dozens of great fights that could have been made, but never were.

And that, to me, is the biggest problem with this era. The TALENT might have been here over the past 10 years to make this a good era, but the strength of an era comes from there being a strong group of fighters who dominated everybody else, and then fought each other until one reigned supreme. When a fighter comes from nowhere with a 37-0 record against unknown quantities, gets some TV time against the usual victim list of Rahman, McCall, Barrett or Briggs, gets a title shot, loses and then is never seen or heard from again, how can we know how good they were?

In this era, the only guys who stick around are the guys who do nothing BUT lose.

Just because we can make a list of heavyweights whose names we know doesn't mean we're in a good era. A good era comes from a solid hierarchy of boxers who have beaten everybody but the elite group above them. And those elite boxers have beaten everybody but the ruler of the division, who has beaten them all.

A good era looks like a pyramid. A bad era looks like someone walking in the desert.

Only in this case, it's two people walking in the desert.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that this thread is like a Union meeting for ******s.

 

I miss the 90s. Heavyweight was a great division back then.
