Yeah but presumably its the best guy who has the title, so if you come back and beat the best guy, then you take his place as the best guy. When looking from hindsight, you'd have a legitimate beef if Vitali had been beaten convincingly by Peter. In that case you could make the argument that he didn't deserve the shot and the the other boxers working their asses off could have given Peter the better fight (and therefore deserved it more). But with 20/20 hindsight we now know that Vitali is much better than Peter so the title shot was actually legit. You can argue truthfully that the WBC could not have known this in advance, but you can't argue that Vitali isn't the legit beltholder (if you can consider split titles as legit).
What about the guy who said that Haye is going to fight like a Tyson/Mercer combo beast? There must be others... When you do these sweeping synthesis viewpoints you miss the majority of guys who are making reasonably logical arguments.
Will he really be considered an ATG? I can't help thinking we'll never really know how good either of the Klitschkos are as theyve never beaten seriously good competition. Im not sure they'll ever get the chance now as the division has been weak for so long.
No he isnt! it is for nut huggers, his resume is not goot at all.. he had some huge potential but wasted his career in injuries etc.. But Wlad is another thing.
Exactly. Vitaly beat a guy widely considered to be one of the top hws (peter) and beat him in devastating fashion. yes the wbc 'emeritis' (or whatever) is bull**** but given the sad state of the hw division it's hard to argue with giving him an immediate shot (though maybe making him fight 1 eliminator would have been more legit). by the way, i wonder who are those hw's that were 'working their asses off' during the relevant time period. all but a select few are woefully out of shape and very few have impressed many people/fans. the division has been very weak, and even off a 4 year layoff and at 37 it was hard to envision that vitaly wouldn't still be one of the better hws. he's now shown that he is one of the 2 best even at his age in this **** division
It was a disgrace giving him an immediate shot at the title. He should have gotten in line, just like everybody else.
No, the bigger disgrace is Sam Peter losing every second of every round to a guy that had been off for four years with multiple injuries and then quitting on his stool. Peter is the disgrace in the scenario NOT Klitschko who won the fight.
He's fought 2 good fighters and lost to both of them, the rest of his record is just littered with bums and over the hill fighters. Much like his brothers, come to think of it.
