A lot of people in the US didn't know Wilder before, but it seems now his popularity has risen within the last 18 months, especially after the Fury bout and these devastating 1 punch KO's

In 2015-2017 his title defenses were against top 30 unknowns, even connoisseurs.

Since 2018 it offers much more interesting fights.

But it is especially the fight against Fury who made it known.

    not really
Fury outclassed him, Ortiz outclassed him for most of the fight. Hes been knocking out bums since the beginning of his career so nothing comes as a shock

Yes, he is now spoken of in the same tone as Mike Tyson and Ali. Social media was awash with his name this weekend. He is a phenom with power on a scale hitherto unseen.

When he KO's Fury in the rematch, itll be time to talk about his all time ranking in all seriousness.

Fury is seen as a celebrity clown doing WWE and stuff, Joshua is irrelevant now and nobody takes Ruiz that seriously

Wilder is universally recognized as the true champion and true kingpin.

There are guys around here that start 4 or 5 threads a day here about him now, so it probably has.

    Not for me though.

It doesn't reflect on his paycheque. There is zero excuse for him not to be paid $20-30 million per fight or to not fill out stadiums or be a PPV draw.

Maybe he should request Floyd Mayweather to manage him.

Gone from fighting the likes of Gavern, Stiverne, Spzilka, Arreola, Molina to fighting an old man just in the top 10 in Ortiz and a former WC out of retirement in Fury would see his stock rise. Plus Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub interviews also helped.

That said Wilder will never be a big selling star like a AJ or Canelo eg attendance and views of his last 3 fights being poor. Whilst his next opponent in Fury people would close their curtains if he boxing in their front garden (less 8,000 people attended his last 2 fights combined).

Could do with fighting with fighting any of Whyte, winner of Ruiz vs AJ and Hunter vs Povetkin.

I can say this...several of my friends who are sports fans, but not boxing fans in particular, are now familiar with Wilder, whereas they weren’t 18 months ago.

Yeah, he’s very popular now. His highlights do well in the short attention span territory of Twitter and IG.
