Has wlad done enough such that he's began a new universally accepted lineage?

I would agree with it tracing back to mosley, I punish the inactivity that follows but from a lineal pov i'd agree.

When lewis was stripped of the wba belt it was because he fought grant and tua instead of ruiz.

Well the issue depends on how you view vacation and retirement. For me a man loses his claim when he vacates it and especially when he retires it.

Erdei chose to vacate and retire, he then fought some 8 rounders once he came back. I can appreciate why people don't hold vacation nor retirement against someone but I completely disagree with it.

Was ralph jones ever the lineal mw champion? I wouldn't say so.

Yet even with a belt less, he was lineal champion; just like Erdei is now lineal champion.

He vacated a title separate from the lineal title; that much is indisputable. The notional championship does not ride on the WBO, surely.

It comes down to how you view his retirement. If you could produce even a written statement to support this, it would help the case. But even that is not an end-all-be-all.

Robinson did not fight for over two years since losing to Maxim. The middleweight picture had moved on. Robinson had unequivocally retired. Erdei was gone for 9 months.

He vacated his entire claim to being a champion that much is indisputable and you wouldn't find any dispute from erdei himself.

It's not a case that needs supporting because it's a decision he made.

The division had moved on in what way? It was still the same guys fighting for the belts.

For me there's two schools of thought regarding lineage and one is that a champion can vacate his throne and the other is that a champion cannot.

I fall into the first category but it seems you are somewhat undecided.

Yeah, I think its safe to say Wlad has established a new lineage. Nobody can seriously dispute him. A minority might favor but Vitali..but being out of action for 4 years and without beating Haye or Chageav, he has no claim.

Again, though I find it hilarious the Ring belt isn't recoginzed yet people want #1 and #2 to fight for the new lineage. Who's #1 and #2 than? They just want the brothers to fight because they know its a paradox that won't happen. You could even argue Vitali lost his #2 claim when he decided not to dispute his brother, and let Chageav step up.

    Exactly it's all semantics really.

View sanction 1 v 3 and could easily gave just promoted 3 to 2 and make it 1 v 2.

That's what they did with froch and ward.

VK was out for 4 years, and the movement he comes back he jumps right under his brother with out fighting any one. I dont buy it. I think Wlad earn the title before VK had his first comeback fight.

I think Wlad defeated the WBC champions 2 times before VK had his first comeback fight.

If I recall. Wlad earn the title pretty much by this point.

Robinson had retired in no uncertain terms. Therefore, upon his comeback, he was no longer regarded as the middleweight king. A loss to Ralph Jones prior to his actual reclamation of the throne is meaningless in the lineal picture.

I've been repeating the same thing over and over again. I do think champions can choose to vacate the title. I cited Jeffries, Louis, Ali, Robinson, and Mayweather as examples. I voted in favor of Wlad, though he has no link to the last titleholder. That should clear up any confusion on your part.

The thing is, the organizations that control boxing today have policies that prohibit multi-divisional champions. Henry Armstrong represented both the lightweight and welterweight titles at one point, but the WBO does not allow their champions to hold a version of their strap or any other strap above or below the weight without leaving the championship vacant. So, Erdei was forced out by the WBO. Good. But we should all know by now, that trinket is not the lineal championship. No one, two or three belts comprise the lineal title, not even The Ring.

Obviously not a current one. He's defeated one former and one future WBC champion, though. But, I think he meant WBA.

    Edit: Yep. He did.

No there is a difference between an organisation making a silly decision to strip and a boxer vacating his claim.

The wbo gave no such ruling and had no such inclination. Erdei and his management decided it best for him to move up whilst braehmer challenges for the vacant belt (because they were stable mates) either way he chose to relinquish his claim to any championship. His retirement has murky issues clouding it but he did still announce it.

Either way he made the choice to not be a lhw champion any more. He made the announcement to relinquish his claim and leave the division.
