Has Wlad done enough to establish lineage?

Undisputed and Lineal are different things. Wlad is clearly not undisputed for as long as he doesn't have the WBC belt or at least a win over the titlist. Is he lineal for beating Byrd (when number 1) or a number of number 3 guys? That is a harder question.

If Vitali retires then Wlad v Povetkin will definitely crown a lineal champ.

Anyone who really believes in lineage should accept the lineal championship ended with tunney's retirement. No other claim will trace back beyond that.

Lineage is a concept and nothing more. It's about the man who beat the man. Well right now the man is Wlad and nothing else really matters.

to have only one man claiming to be champion in a divsion is gonna be very difficult since the acceptance of the wbo belt. Wlad is already wba, wbo, ibf and ring champ. Awarding him a mythical championship makes no difference to the real world.

Hell Briggs had a claim that could be traced back to when Tyson unified the division but noone gave a **** then so I dont see they would give a **** now.

I agree with most of what you say. Wladimir is definitely the real world heavyweight champion and in that there is no doubt.

Shannon Briggs' claim went back all the way to Floyd Patterson actually. Briggs "beat" Foreman, which I put in parentheses because I thought Foreman won that fight. Foreman beat Moorer who beat Holyfield who beat Bowe who beat Holyfield who beat Douglas who beat Tyson who beat Spinks who beat Holmes who established himself as champion while Ali was retired. Ali came out and lost to Holmes, so Holmes beat Ali who beat L. Spinks who beat Ali who beat Foreman who beat Frazier who won the title after it was stripped from Ali by the U.S government. Frazier beat the undefeated Ali in 1971, so he then had the lineal claim. Ali beat Liston who beat Patterson who beat Johansson who beat Patterson who won the vacant title from Archie Moore who was the last man to challenge Marciano for the title before Marciano's retirement.

I just typed a portion of that list up, which I have all in my memory. I wish I knew you were going to post that as it would have saved me a little time this morning. :good

Agreeable in essence, except I don't believe Vitali ever did enough to be considered lineal champion. He only ever held the one belt, and beating Corrie Sanders and Danny Williams isn't even to establish a new lineage. He may well have been the best heavyweight in the world at that point, but he didn't prove it and never has.

    Yes.

Roy Jones never fought DM. WK never fought VK.

Jones is still thought of as the man. Same should apply to Wlad.

I think of Wlad as "The Man", most definitely, but in the strictist sense he has not established lineage for legacy.

Well upon Vitali retirememt im sure the last belt will make its way to Wlad one way or the other.

I consider him Linear now though.

Which is exactly what Vlad. This should have ended this dumb thread. Vlad has been the linear champ for years.

    Hoovering up belts is unifying.

Establishing a new lineage is about the #1 taking on the #2 to crown a champ. At least if you view lineage as an actuallity rather than an abstract concept.

He's been the true heavyweight champion since he beat Chagaev in 2009. Since then, he's had 6 defences as 'heavyweight champion'. He isn't, however, a lineal champion because he's not beaten the number 2 in his era or beaten the number 1. It might be unfair as his brother is the second best heavyweight, but tough, that's the way it has to be.

Would u say Jones was linear champ having never fought DM then?

We all know bull**** decisions are not recognized on this forum, therefore George Foreman is still the lineal Champion.

Lewis, Vitali, and Wlad were/are nothing more than belt holders who decorate their waist with worthless trinkets.
