That's an interesting way of looking at it, but would not actually LOSING to the linear champ pretty much make him the last guy with any claim to being linear champ? It's like we have actual evidence of him NOT becoming champion. You see, there are so many ways to see it right now, that the only thing that is clear is that nothing is clear. There is no true, undisputed champion.

Thats why the question was posed: 'Has he done enough?'

Wlad is widely regarded as the #1 Heavyweight. He has half the championship with the WBO/IBF belts and he recently destroyed the legit WBA champ.

I think thats enough to establish lineage. In these circumstances.

being "widely" regarded as the #1 Heavyweight is not enough to establish lineage. Alot of people think Vitali is better than Wlad.

This thread should have ended with this post. I personally think Vit would beat Wlad, but I don't want to see them fight each other, I'll just accept the situation the way the brothers have.

I agree, it is just my opinion. Though I think Vitali was heir apparent to Lewis' crown back in 04 when he was rewarded the belt after Lewis retired or did he have to fight Kirk Johnson for it? Either way the belt that Lewis once held was now Vitali's and he defended against Williams, Johnson, and Sanders, then stepped down not losing the belt in the ring.

****, after thinking about it. I guess Lewis did kinda break the lineage by retiring and not losing the belt in the ring. I guess a case can be made for either Klitschko, but the only way we can have a real Heavyweight champ is for the brothers to either fight or one of them to lose or retire.

I think Wlad has a greater claim to lineage than Vitali.

He is the closest thing to a linear heavyweight champion we have seen since Lennox retired. He's got 2 of the 4 belts (could have been 3, if Chagaev wasnt stripped). The fight that needs to happen now is Wlad vs. Valuev that will make it 3 out of 4 (belts) so that whoever wins (Wlad) will be undisputed.

like it or not the brothers are considered to be the top HWs today...so unless they fight each other I'm afraid that we wont have a lineage while these 2 are around

...not unless someone comes and KTFO them of course :D

I think he's done as much as he can, but it isn't really enough. Lineage is re-established with a fight between the top 2 and with that not happening AND the top-2 being very clear, I don't think it's reestablished. Nitpicky, yes, but that's the way it goes. As others have said, when Vitali retires, it could be done.

BTW, I've seen it said in places that Vitali/Sanders reestablished lineage for Vitali with Sanders getting a #2 ranking after besting Wlad. I don't know if that was a Ring #2, though or a "general consensus" one. Anyway, I don't buy it and I'm guessing most won't, but it is something I've seen stated before.

Lineage is not passed outside the ring. That's nonsense. Make a case for VK/Sanders, but don't say it happened by default.

Even if there aren't "official" rules of lineage, I think one thing people can agree upon is that winning a fight factors in there pretty significantly.

Since their contracts recently state that to fight one you have to guarantee a fight against the other should you win I'd say that you can view them as a lineal pair if you squint your eyes.
