Wlad (now, thanks to Steward) has great footwork, considering his size. It is visible in all of his more recent fights. Against Peter, Chagaev just to name two obvious ones. Vs. Peter in round 6, the round after the two (one rabbit, one push-down) "knockdowns". Look how Wlad uses his legs, Peter does not land a SINGLE punch the entire round, swinging wildly and missing every single hand, while he eats a number of jabs and hooks. Wlad's footwork completely neutralizes Peter's amateurish attempts to close the distance.

According to your theory, anybody who is tall automatically has great footwork because they "capitalize on their physical advantage". 10 HW boxers in the top 100 have the physical parameters that are comparable to Wlad's, yet he is superior to 99% of them. Why?

Before Steward, Wlad's footwork was very similar to Dimitrenko's. He stood there like a statue once he came under pressure. It is the product of Fritz Sdunek, Wlad's ex trainer who is now training Dimitrenko (6"7 guy).

Don't bother FrankityFrank with mere facts....................if size was Wlad's only advantage he'd be lucky to even hold a belt. Look at Primo Carnera for instance...............

Yeah, but you are forgetting what the most tall boxers struggle with, speed.
Tall boxers are quite vulnerable because they usually have a slower punch that can be countered easier than a short fast one. You shouldnt only list the advantages. Wlad and Vitali win fights because of their footwork, boxing technique and because they are very fast.

    :good

Sdunek ruins Wlad! Wlad had better footwork in the amateurs and in his entire professional career (before he lost to Puritty). After this bout Sdunek change Wlad´s style.

With Emanuel Steward Wlad goes back to his roots with good footwork and speed and improved his defensive skills.

Steward turned Wlad into a complete very good professional boxer with great balance too. Wlad moves so good in the ring, he change the angles when he throws his punches so the opponent cannot hit him. And Wlad has a gameplane when he is fighting.

Thanks and probs to the team Steward/Wlad.:thumbsup

So, Frank, can you then tell me why Julius Long, McCline, Dimitrenko, Tony Thompson, Derrick Jefferson, Tye Fields, Lance Whitaker, etc., etc., etc., who are all as tall or taller than Wlad, never won a title, let alone defended it numerous times against top 10 opposition ? Yeah, right, "they're just tall!".
