    He couldn’t be arsed to go to the gym, so I can’t see putting the blame on a promoter or trainer. The fighter has to have the desire — why reward laziness? No promoter is singular so if the promoter is putting together a card and says ‘is Corrie available’ and the answer is ‘he’s got an early tee time, I’ll ask him when he gets back from the golf course … if he drops by’ … then scratch him and give someone who is working hard the reward.

    It’s unknowable if he’d have amounted to more or even as much if they lined up fight after fight for him. His chin was suspect and his defense was an afterthought. Nate Tubbs put him down and Nate wasn’t exactly all that (I think he had like two other wins over fighters with winning records and they were journeymen, iirc). Could be some middling heavyweights would have done the same.
