This content is protected Fascinating stuff here. 1 - A State of the Heavyweight Roundtabel at the start, OK it's got Dan Rafael in it but this was a very weird time in HW history and it's cool to see the chat happen. 2 - A very cool little profile on Hasim, the usual on Toney. 3 - A ***** little fight that ends in pandemonium
That was a weird era, but I put a lot of the blame on the judges, honestly. I thought Rahman decisioned Toney there, but it was ruled a draw. I thought Golota beat both Byrd and Ruiz, but the judges scored it a draw against Byrd and unbelievably for Ruiz. The fights were happening, the judges just weren't scoring for the guys who won, IMO. Or weren't picking a winner at all, in the case of all the draws. Lamon Brewster and Golota should've been for the WBO, WBA and IBF belts, if Golota had gotten the nod against Byrd and Ruiz. Also, Lamon Brewster put together a pretty sweet title reign. The KO of Wlad. The KO of Golota. The KO of Krasniqi in Germany on Schmeling's 100th birthday. (The Meehan fight was just okay.) And the classic war when he lost his title to Liakhovich. Very entertaining champion. He had a run like Saad Muhammad's, just didn't happen in the era of boxing on network television. The fights in that era weren't all that bad. Most of the matchups took place. The judges just got in the way most of the time.
Good fight, honestly Toney didn't look too bad for a fat middleweight taking on a decent sized heavyweight even had his moments in the fight (personally scored it a draw but thats just me)
