Before you laugh and mock Rahman, remember, he was a strong and powerful heavyweight with a hard punch and decent skills and would actually dwarf Sonny Liston. Liston was normally the bigger man in the ring, but this time, would be the smaller man.

    Could Liston overcome Rahman?

Liston mid rounds KO, better boxing ability all round, more well schooled, punishes him throughout and stops him.

Liston by KO. Harder puncher, better boxer and more durable. In fact Rahman's power is overrated. Lewis was the only top 100 fighter he has KOed with a single punch. He stopped Sanders and Meehan but needed zillion punches to do it and both were stopped on their feet. And Rahman couldn't stop ancient versions of Berbick, Ferguson and Cole. He couldn't stop Barrett, Sykes and Sullivan none of whom had a good chin. And finally he couldn't seriously hurt glass-jawed Oleg Maskaev who quite probably had the worst punch resistance among all HW world title holders in history. So no, Rahman wasn't monstrous puncher by any means. He had good power but not top level one

I still can’t believe the credit Lewis gets for taking Rahman out at the second time of asking. If he’d done him in the first time, as expected, he would have bagged himself less credit - somehow.

Rahman does not do one solitary thing better than Liston. He’s a goner in this fight.

I realize Rahman could be tough and dangerous at times. But I just can’t favor the man who was stopped TWICE by Oleg Maskaev to beat Sonny Liston.

On the one hand, I don't legitimately favour Rahman at all. On the other hand, Kenny Norton beat Ali, so clearly he'd be a live dog against Liston. What's more impressive, Rahman getting a KO of Lewis or Liston getting one over Patterson? Neither are impressive, everyone is overrated. Except the underrated, who shall inherit the earth, as is in the Bible.

One night’s work doesn’t make him a favorite in my eyes. And Lewis lost that fight on complete Carelessness and overconfidence. He was smiling and lowering his guard when he got caught

Good little fight, maybe interesting for a while.
Liston stops him around the sixth, big old right hand, putting him down and out.

Marciano would have beaten Liston and Rahman.

I don't see a scenario that would lead me to believe Rahman has a chance. Sonny was a bigger hitter, had a better jab and cross and was more durable (Ali fights notwithstanding). Rahman was probably physically stronger (he's renown for this). Rahman also gets hurt far too much in fights to survive against a real killer. Sonny I think beats him up really bad and stops him 6-8 rounds.

One other thing: both men are also talked about as having the largest hands of any HW for what it's worth.

How has Rahman injured you? Why do you want to see him pulverized?
