He beat Avtandil Khurtsidze on points last night. Interesting why there is a need for an interim fight when Gennady Golovkin, the regular champ, having last defended in August and is next out in December. Felix Sturm is the Super Champ. I thought the purpose a super champion was to keep the belt active when the regular champ unifies the belt. I know the answer - 3 Sanctioning fees
On last nights peformance Golovkin beats Njikam. I dont mind when a fighter keeps their hands low once they have good head movement but Njikam didnt really have that last night. He depends on his feet to get him out of trouble and was getting stuck in the corners quite a bit. I know lots of fighters lean on the ropes but Njikams manner of doing it is going to lead to him getting KOd spectacularly if he does it against a puncher. He puts the upper half of his body way outside the ring and keeps his chin cocked up in the air. He does pick some of his shots beautifully, especially some of his uppercuts as the Georgian walked in but his defence is real poor. Depends more on athletic ability than boxing ability. Id still like to see Golovkin-Njikam though, think it would be a fun fight. Last nights fight was very enjoyable
Golovkin would crush him in 5 I think. Once the foot movement of NDNJ wears off he's going to be in a bit of trouble and I don't think he has the firepower to trouble GG himself. It's kinda like Jacobs/Pirog matchup.
For any of the guys who think Golovkin is the next Hagler just watch his fight against Amar Amari were he gets wobbled badly by a non puncher and has to hold on for dear life.
Its on the Scene of boxing forum. Golovkin was clipped in the 4th round by a left hook from this orthodox fighter and his knees did a little dip and the journeyman wasnt quick enough to attack as golovkin stood in the middle of the ring wooden legged and hurt. The journey man dived in but golovkin held him and recovered . Golovkin clearly won the fight on points by a mile but he can be hurt.
3 WBA champs at middleweight? None of them for real, Martinez is the champ. The really funny thing is, a decent middleweight could go to Germany and KO Sturm, Sylvester and Sbik and be a sort of Undisputed champion! :huh
