Hat off to David Haye's marketing people

He does a great job but he still is very little known considering he is a British heavyweight champion of the world...I guess that is more a fall from grace for the sport than the man himself.

 

I wouldnt say he is little known i think David Haye considering he is a one man band so to speak ie no promoter (obv he has other people behind the scenes as well) but he does a brilliant job of getting himself out there and i think most people in Britain have at least a vague idea of who he is which is a step in the right direction. It hsows if the boxers are willing to put themselves out there the media will reciprocate

 

hang on one second, the reason he got on all those chat shows etc before the valuev fight was because sky backed him. if he wasnt on sky, he wouldnt be on those shows. the power sky have got him into those shows, forced him into those slots. its a good thing for him and boxing but all it proves is the power sky have

 

I agree...the acid test of a boxers fame is if my wife recognizes him...she does, therefore he must be very nearly as famous as Ali. People shouldn't underestimate the power of crappy programs like Paul Ogrady and Dirty Women (or whatever its called) to get someones face out there.

Hasn't Haye got a marketting or business degree??, or is that Cleverley i'm thinking of?

 

Nah Ckeverly has an A-Level in English Lit and Media Studies I think.

 

Please don't say he's appeared on that? I know Hatton and I think Calzaghe has but I'd have thought Haye had more self-respect.

Haye does a very good job and self promotion, he also has a female following as well.

 

he is a great sell, dont get me wrong, i think hes awesome, and does a great job selling himself. he is a good-looking guy, an exciting fighter but more than any other fighters he has 2 things going for him
- charisma, lots of fighters just dont interview well and arent very intelligent - calzaghe, mitchell, m. hatton, munroe, cleverly to an extent(always have to use the uni, cleverly name gimmick in every report, interview)
- hes a heavyweight. and britains first in a long time of any note. the public love heavyweights and sky know they can bank on him to make the big money. thats why not the rest of the fighters on sky IMO
