actually come to think of it, Haye was everywhere after valuev, all i remeber hearing from Froch after Dirrell was on 5Live breakfast for about 3 mins...again shows the power of the promoter, in this case Sky, who basically did all the promotion in the UK

I think its down to the fighter himself and of course his promoter telling him what shows he should go to get maximum exposure. he has to be out there selling himself, Froch doesn't do that, Calzaghe never did it either until after the recognition he got for the way he dismantled Lacy.

Christ my 82 year old gran knows who David Haye is, she doesn't know Carl Froch.

David Haye is phenomenally great at marketing/promoting himself. Before the Valuev fight, I had loads of people who know nothing about boxing approach me and talk to me about it. Everyone KNEW about it.
The trash talking/ t-shirts, etc. Distasteful? Maybe. But everyone was TALKING about him.

I think David is brilliant for the sport - his general attitude to wanting to take risky fights, etc. But more so, he's brought attention back to boxing again. I can't recall the last time I saw so many column inches dedicated to a boxer before. Long may it continue.

Yeah, comparisons of Froch & Haye, perfectly illustrate the power Sky's marketing machine.

Although, to be fair, Froch did make an appearance on the Weakest Link:yep

see i disagree a bit here, Froch would be doing it but he cant get in the door as it were, his promoter doesnt have the power and influence(or much else it appears). Sky get Haye in to the slots, he does his thing. Froch cant get into any slots so has to resort to slagging Calzaghe and talking big whenever he gets the chance. when you hear what froch and haye have to say, its often similar, but haye gets the bigger platform and therefore has a louder voice

I'm at a loss to understand how you think that Sky has so much pull over the BBC or ITV

The PR stunt of the poster with the severed Klitcho head was gruesome but clever.

The billing of David v Goliath for his last fight was lapped up by the media.

David Haye's next fight against Ruiz is going to be so one-sided that it aint funny. Ruiz, should not be even getting that shot. But, I expect this to be a sell-out and the PPV will probably do well too.

Haye is a sexy boy (no homo), and has the t.v. face, and personality to go with it. He is a master self promoter. And he has the clout of sky, rather than froch having the non entity of fat mick as his promoter.

    News Corp owns BskyB
BskyB owns 17.9% of ITV... thats a good start
and News Corp owns several newspapers no doubt (the sun, times, news of the world i believe) - they know hayes gonna win, therefore gonna be big news, especially in those papers(the times, the sun) that lots of people read. the bbc and itv arent gonna want to be out of the loop, missing the news stories, in turn getting themselves coverage and sky love it as hayes name gets bigger - selling more PPV

Froch needs to learn from Haye.

On Question of Sport a couple of weeks ago, Phil Tuffnel called him Maccarinelli AGAIN! Thats twice now! No one knew who he was.

Im quite suprised my girlfriends mum knows who he is, only to find out she used to be his teacher.

Haye does well by putting himself out there but in comparison to Froch Haye has the added benefit of being a heavyweight and having fought a giant in Valuev. Would the casual fan have cared so much if it was merely a John Ruiz who he'd fought to take the 'title'? Obviously Haye's willingness to take boxing into the gutter and risk bringing the sport into disrepute (with his t-shirt campaign) also won him some notoriety.
