I think Americans tend to be more nationalistic than Europeans. You're right about the Filipinos but I think Brits and other Euros are definltely more likely to support a foreign fighter that they like whereas Americans are less so. I remember how horrified the American boxing media was at Lennox Lewis. They seemed appalled at the idea of a Heavyweight champion with a British accent. its kind of understandable since Americans basically dominated the sport for so long.

Yeah but i would'nt read too much into that. Thats how the Americans are, that aint them bein bad, they're just used to winning and its strange for them when they ar'nt dominating in the fashion they believe there used to. That said, why should'nt they?, they have a massive potential talent pool, all the money n skill needed and crucially a distinctively aggressive, winning mentality. I agree that some, and i mean only some, just like anywhere else take it a bit too far and are genuine ****s but hey like i said there ten a penny everywhere, i suppose the American boys are just a little louder.

Exactly. Its understandable and Americans seem to be getting more mature and able to accept that people from other nations aren't genetically inferior or anything.

I dont think he's the best fighter of the last 25 years. Thats just nuts. He is easily one of the best fighters of the last 25 years. And comparisons to Leonard are not that absurd. If you would use your knowledge of boxing and not taint your reasoning with anger n hatred then you would see why some people draw those comparisons.

its understandable thought given that european fight fans have had more exposure to calzaghe than american fans and have followed his career more from his earlier (supposedly better) "prime" days (i use the word prime loosely as calzaghe fans are quick to point out he conveniently became past it when made to look amateurish against b-hop).
most american fans will only have seen his more recent fights and some will have only seen him against hopkins which was a dire performance so of course they have the right to be skeptical if the guys carries so much hype with him. The hopkins fight wasnt exactly a good coming out party to america

So who had Calslappy beaten that was so great when he was Pavliks age, I wonder, and what belts did he hold :think

Of course there may be fighters out there that would beat the **** out of Pavlik, same as there were PLENTY of fighters out there that would have beaten the **** out of Calslappy back in the late 90's and right up to around 2003. Presumably if Pavlik takes a leaf out of Joes book and just ducks them all until they're in their late 30's/early 40's you'll be on here saying how great he is, right?

He wouldn't, is the simple answer - he'd just get beaten up badly, which he already knows, and the fight will never happen for that reason. Hell he wouldn't even beat Taylor never mind Pavlik and I actually hope he takes that route should he decide to carry on, cos he'll look an even bigger **** losing to Taylor :D

This is a match that could use Olympic scoring. Taylor being the faster now days will score more points. Neither guy has stopped anyone in a while. Of course if Joe has to hit with the white square......

I wouldn't go so far as to call Brewer a journeyman, but he was way past his best when he fought Calslappy (as were most of the 'names' on Calslappys record)

Hell I saw Herol Graham flat out own Brewer years before that when he was in his late 30's, until he ran out of gas and got stopped.
