roy jones jr says he recons he has another 5 or at most 6 fights left in him, if he decides to carry on his career, on an interview for 8countnews this is gunna end up bad for him if he does continue that long anyone else think this may be down to his dad beating boxing into him he used to do it all the time as a kid and probably hated it alot of the time now he seems to thinks hes enjoying boxing, he may not be able to stop until he physically cant compete, but i hope it doesnt get to that
they definitely should prevent guys like him from fighting again. hes just looking to get seriously brain damaged.
Christ. The twilight years of Roy's career have already been bad enough. He'll probably end his career with 10-12 losses, most of them being by KO. I'd also be willing to bet that he retires after Hopkins does. As long as Hopkins is around, I'm sure Roy won't want to give it up. It's his life though, so good luck to him.
I would love to see Jones retire but if he doesn't want to than thats his decision and should be allowed to make it. If he were to match up against other shot fighters than it wouldn't be quite so painful to watch. Take a third fight with Griffin, rematch Toney, or look for a Holyfield fight, those fights wouldn't be so dangerous and would be a lot less painful on his fans as well.
Roy jones doesnt enjoy boxing perse, its the superstar centre of attention thing he cant let go, it makes him feel like mj he even said it when lampley asked it after the lebedev ko when he was back commentating. Everyone is worried about jones, his fans, his family crying at ringside when he got ko'd, yet he doesnt care about that but just selfishly continues to embaress his repuation and hurt his health.
Is he really broke? I know he wasted a lot of money but if its really money its pretty sad. You would think he could easily relax for 35 years with the money he made and his hbo job, even if he is broke why face hard punching opponents far abroad instead of hometown exhibitions vs featherfist opponents, at this point nobody expects jones to become a champion anymore. Everyone just wants him to stop hurting his health.
A far too common occurence in boxing: a faded legend with alleged IRS debt risking his health and tarnishing his legacy by getting beat up by guys he once would have dominated. Why can't these guys hire a money manager or adapt to a more supportable lifestyle?
As long as he doesn't fight any top 10 rated guys I don't think he will be in danger. He can pick on shot, old, blown up fighters (Trinidad, Lacy etc.) Montell Griffin fought this weekend, Jones-Griffin III sounds good.
