Hate to say JT vs kelly Pavlik is gonna be a RACE war!

But that's sort of my point. People talk about it, but it doesn't seem to catch on. You're much more likely to find a conflict between Mexico and Puerto Rico, because their fighters tend to be nationalistic.

Pavlik and Taylor seem a little too similar outside the ring to bring about that sort of conflict. It doesn't seem like KP endured the sort of poverty Taylor did growing up, but from what I understand he's very much a middle class or lower middle class kid.

Plus, neither guy seems all that interested in talking heavy trash. Taylor would have been much more verbal about Miranda, who genuinely seemed to get under his skin.

But maybe I'm just being naieve.

Hey, I hope it doesn't catch on. But if you're a promoter (is HBO promoting it?) and you don't bring it up, honestly, you're probably going to lose some $$$$.

If it's on free HBO, that's different. But if it's on PPV, there's no way race isn't going to be brought up, one way or another. Maybe subtlely, like 'two small-town kids, one from the north, one from the south.' There's a lot of ways to bring race (or anything else) up without coming up and saying it.

I guess we'll see.

Lacy v Calzaghe is a good example of this - two determined, self & opponent respecting fighters meeting up.... little room for the race drama to unfold.

Racial issues are an unfortunate fact of life, but IMO ONE OF THE THINGS THINGS THAT MAKES BOXING SO GREAT?? Is that when the bell rings, all that **** IS MEANINGLESS!!! You have two men squaring off and it's heart, will, and skill that makes the difference NOT the level of a man's pigmentation.

I dont see or havent seen any statements from Pavlik or Taylor about racial issues here. This sounds more like people/fans wanting to STIR **** UP AND CREATE RACIAL TENSION/ISSUES and its :barf disgusting.

I respect Taylor, am rooting for Pavlik, and may the best man WIN. Skin color has exactly **** to do with it.

 

Yeah, I'm not saying that the thing has to be 'racist,' but it's human nature to root for a guy (or girl) who you feel you can relate to. So, of course some white guys will hope Pavlik wins and some black guys will hope Taylor wins. As C Money said, that's part of life, especially (unfortunately) in America. There's nothing wrong, IMO, with rooting for 'your guy,' as long as you can admit your guy lost when he loses and give the other guy props when he wins. People that can't do that are the ones that go from 'rooting for 'their guy'' to being more of racists, IMO.

If promoters can get you to buy something because of issues like race, or sex, or nationalism, they will (or most will) try to do so, to appeal to the 'lowest common denominator.' It means more money for them.

Similarly, if betting houses can get people to put money on an outclassed guy (think Gatti against PBF), they will make the line so that it will help them to do it. That's their business.

Just to once again clarify what I'm saying, I do think the promotion/discussion around the fight will undoubtedly involve race. Even if it's just by the fans (which it won't be, because I'm sure the promoters will get in on the action, even if just in a subtle way). That doesn't mean that anyone discussing it/promoting it is racist, it just means they either hope 'their guy' wins and/or they want to make more money.

That being said, fights like this always do bring out the genuine racists. I'm sure this will be no different. It wasn't an accident that there were about 20 articles on ESB the day after Calzaghe beat Lacy, and it would have been similar if Lacy had won.

I've seen it all when it comes to racial tension, bull****, and violence most of the time the ****s do the yapping are in need of some bonding tie to back up their weak nature. They rely on the support. About the only place it has any justification is in PRISON, that's HELL, and not the reality we strive to LIVE in. In that atmosphere you'll play a long or get taken out by you're "own kind":-( :-(

Both Taylor and Pavlik carry themselves in a respectable nature and white or black has nothing to do with the outcome. I seriously hope that the media has enough sense to keep a proper perspective. They'll always be CLOWNS, but they belong in the CIRCUS. If the issue raises its ugly head?? Make SECURITY very heavy, plenty of cameras, and paddy wagons, waiting:good So that they can escort the imbeciles to the proper environment.
