I'm not defending his choice of opponent in the slightest. I think it will be a lot closer than most people think, but Lazcano doesn't have much chance of winning. I would have preffered to see Hatton face someone like Ngoudjo or Torres. However, the obscene price tag is still Sky's fault. Its a good bounce back fight though. There aren't many opponents who serve as much use as Lazcano does. He is a respectable opponent with a fairly strong resume. He's an action fighter, so it should be good for fans of Hatton's style. All that and doesn't stand much chance of winning. Which fighter would be a better choice given that criteria? An easy but entertaining win? The only fault I have with this fight is the fact Sky are charging for it. Aside from that, I see no problems.
Lazcano may have been a decent opponent if he had fought a couple of times more over the last couple of year. He is a terrible choice of opponent for Hatton to give us, unfortunetly all the noobs to boxing will think that if he wins in style he is some how good enough to wipe Mayweathers bum. I doubted he would fight a dangerous guy like Torres but Herman would have been good. I am sure we could all name a few guys that would have been an ok matchup. I am still disapointed in the price that Sky have put on the show but to say that Hatton did not realise sky would do this or that it would benefit him financially is a joke. Same as it is a joke claiming to give back to the fans and then giving us this tripe.
Its not a PPV bill but its still a pretty solid card, to call it tripe is OTT. Either pay Sky the 15 quid or don't....
Nah hes still awesome. i wish i could hang out with that guy, imagine the fun fights at the bars you'd get into with that mofo on your side.
This is what I wrote on another thread, after a couple of people had mentioned some of the "haters" on here just presuming Ricky was a liar, that he was a hypocrite and that they are clinging to a sociopathic hatred by just guessing about him at best or lying and making things up with libellous comments at worse. A couple of posters had said that everyone who has met Rick has nothing but really nice things to say about him. Here is what I went on to say. I've said this before on here, I didn't want to but I was so sick and tired of Scurla, that Scottish feller and a couple of others lies and guesses and complete character assasinations on a person none of them know anything about, I felt I had to. I know Ricky, he lives down my road, drinks in the same pubs etc etc. I also know his family. Firstly, this "disabled, fat kid" or "ugly ******" as I have heard him being called by some scum on here, is called James, he's a mate of mine and his backstory is heartbreaking. He was only supposed to have months to live when his mum who looked after James, his two brothers and two sisters (with some help from his nan, us and mostly Rick) suddenly died of pneumonia. Anyway, People talk about James as though he is some mascot Ricky is using to gain people's hearts. The fact is, Rick has looked after James since long before he was famous, he has dedicated his career to him and has done absolutely everything he possible can to make James' life and the lives of his family as happy as possible. James is possible the most beautiful person I have ever met, he literally cannot have a bad thought about anybody (besides wanting to beat up any of Ricks apponents if they hurt him), he loves everyone around him and loves his life, no matter how cruel it has been. He loves Ricky most of all though and you should see how he lights up when he is with him or when he so much as hears his name. In this, I would bet, Ricky has done more for the benefit of someone else than all of his "haters" put together. This isn't about James though. For some reason, you believe his everyman thing is an act, it honestly isn't. You really couldn't meet a more genuine, friendly and kind person. The amount of times I have been walking through Hyde to see him surrounded by people asking for autographs, which he gives happily while having a laugh with them. Generally he walks around un-accousted because he is just a piece of the furnature round here, he isn't a celebraty in any way, just a kid who everyone has seen growing up, he hasn't changed in anyway, so nobody really get's excited about him. When he isn't near a fight, he is tirelessly arranging stuff for charity or for the sick, that seems to be what all his energy goes into. There is always something he is trying to organise, or someone trying to get him to sign something or make an appearance and 99% of the time he is more than happy to do it. There are a couple of things I know he is doing now which I can't really say, as I don't want to ruin a surprise for the people involved but it is incredibly selfless and shows how much the people around him mean to him. I appreciate people might get bored hearing the same things being said when he is on TV but really, that is what the directors have latched onto because it is exactly that what the public want to hear. I could go on for another few paragraphs but I just realised it is not going to make any difference at all to these people, it never did before, I don't really know why you have taken against him so much but it is crazy. There are so many targets out there who deserve your **** and you give it out to someone who honestly couldn't be a better sportsman or role model.
Don't be so facetious. The opening poster was making the point that people are snobbishley turning their backs on him now he is popular (I think their are more reasons than that but they are all quite ludicriss, ignorant and obnoxious). Jimbo was obviously making the point that while the analagy is true (in Jim's opinion), the difference is, where Oasis went ****, Ricky has not. EDIT: Cheers KCD!
You really can't blame Ricky for that! Can you honestly, even slightly put any blame on his team for the box office thing? The thing to do and it is quite easy, is to boycott Sky and go and watch it in the pub. Then it is quite up to you how much you spend, spend as little as two quid or as much as you can handle. Regarding the gags. I do know what you mean but you can't really blame him for that either. He really is funny as **** and is a wonderful speaker. I am not saying this as a Peter Kay fan who will shout "Gaaaarrlic bread!!" or "NI!" in the pub, I am saying this as someone who has studied comedy for many years and I would like to think I know a thing or two about it (my favourite comedians and shows are Russ Abbot, Little Miss Jocylyn, Little Britain, 2 lager and packet of crisps........... no, no, no!! Sorry, just joking! Rather The Day Today,* Brass Eye, Jam, Pythin, Peter Cook, Withnail, Prior, etc etc). The unfortunate thing is, when there is a televisual piece about him, they always seem to take the same jokes, presumably because they are the ones that are fit to air. Most stand up's have a script that they will use through a tour or through an indefinite period, some, even some of the greatest recycle the same gags all the way through their career. Now, Richard isn't a professional stand-up but he does a ****ing good job of it when he get's a chance. I have seen him several times as guest speaker and many times where he is just entertaining a group in the pub and he honestly has them on the flloor! He has some great gags and for someone who isn't a stand-up, he has great timing. Trust me, when his boxing career is over, he will never be short of work, he will be doing after dinner shows and I reckon there will be a few "night with Ricky Hatton" down the line because he is wonderful with an audience, very very funny and they love him. He will also undoubtably do some work for Sky or Setanta. For some reason,l the haters here claim he is a but thick or unintelligent which is absolutely bollocks and obvious to see when you listen to him. *As I see Mikey does also and I know for a fact "Words" shares the same taste in comedy.
Oasis went **** after the second LP. There is def. a hint of boxing elitism in some of this hate towards Hatton....
yep. surely hatton and co had no idea that sky was going to make the show ppv when they sold the rights to them. blaming them is like blaming arms dealers when their customers start using the merchandise to massacre their own citizens. just by two rupees worth.
jelousy springs to mind!!!!! why else would you hate a person so much that you dont know or never met before? boxing style = whats wrong with ko's and results witter ducking = bigger fish to fry ray hatton = he's family he's obviously gonna big up him. how do you know he lies? and what does he lie about?
There's no doubt a lot of this is fuelled by boxing snobbery - the music snobbery analogy is spot on. It's a studenty, thoroughly embarrassing attitude to have and makes me cringe. How pathetic a person must you be to try to validate yourself by 'being different'? In many a debate some idiots have piped up 'I'm a true boxing fan' which is both meaningless and laughable, and proves the snobbery point entirely A lot of it is also regional rivalry, no two ways about that. There's an element that don't like him because he's Mancunian.
Yeah Hatton does plenty of non publicised charity stuff and visits to kids hospitals etc. He could make far more of that if he wanted to, but he doesn't. My cousins kid is severely disabled from a **** up during delivery and Hatton came to the hospital unannounced to visit all the kids...my cousin said he was a top lad, did photos with all the kids etc and they have one on her sons bedroom wall. He did not bring or alert the press and so there was no "Hatton visits disabled kids" media line about it, just something he chose to do. Likewise I know other people who have met him and not one person has a bad word to say about him. I have no issue with people being bored of his media persona, the repetition of the old cliches or people criticising his choice of opponents at times. But the actual hatred for someone and the attempts to actually paint him as a **** and a nasty piece of work are pathetic and a sad indictment of the way some people here work. Especially as not one of you who hates him and spends your time here desperately trying to dig up dirt on him, has ever managed to find a single comment from anyone who has met him saying anything remotely bad. Grow up.
My nephew has the same condition as James... Whoever wrote those things about them must live in a horrible mindset....
