I was impressed with his jab and heart, but his post-fight quote "At the end of the day, he's caught me with a good body shot, simple as that. I wasn't getting smashed," is selling Cotto a bit short.

I think he did well considering...

Whoever said he wasjust trying to survive is talking ****...

The first 2/3 rounds he fought a good fight tactically, using his jab and trying to keep the distance...

Whoever said he didn't try an change his tactics after this is wrong imo...he started to bring his right hand into the equation and caught Cotto a few times with some good shots, this led to him getting caught by the big left hook which led to th barrage to the head and body and effectiely ended the fight...

If he was only trying to survive he wouldn't have tried to hit Cotto with the right hand more often...he'd have been content to let the fight go as it was...Cotto's pressure would've got him eventually but if he hadn't started trying to hit Cotto with the right and left himself open to the left hook then he'd have "survived" a bit longer...

He did his best...but Cotto is not only arguably the best welterweight out there but also will be p4p top 3 in the not too distant future imo...

Cotto was just a different class literally...

Good luck to Jennings...he should get the british title back and then build up from there imo...the experience will have done him good...he could probably have lasted a while longer but he would only have taken a savage beating that would have destroyed his career imo...

  5. I'm quite surprised by some of the criticism. I can only imagine it is coming from people who don't watch much boxing and don't really have much of an understanding of the sport. I find it hard to find fault with Jennings' performance on saturday myself. The important thing to remember is the difference in class between him and Cotto which was apparent. I thought Jennings gave it his best shot and did all he could. He showed a lot of courage to come out like he did in the 5th after obviously being hurt in the 4th.

Cotto was immensely impressive I thought. There was something very cold and clinical about the way stalked Jennings and eventually took his man out. He looks to have gotten over the Margarito loss. I hope we get to see a Cotto/Mosely rematch now.

Not many people thought Michael would win but he has a moral victory. I am not ashamed to put my hands up and admit that I thought he'd be ko'd within the first couple of minutes or at best sometime during round 2.

He turned up, tried his best and gave an honest fight. Afterwards he had nothing but compliments for Miguel Cotto. Many would have turned up just for the money (Hello Mr Lockett) and had many excuses afterwards.

Michael Jennings is a credit to boxing and is a gentleman.

There is a school of thought that says that Ricky Hatton walking forward will be Cotto's nightmare. Nonsense. Miguel Cotto will move gracefully as he did against Margarito and make Hatton look as crude. Cotto is a clever fighter who after a bit of silly critisim from those who wanted him to be "more exciting" turned from slick boxer to boxer-puncher. Now, as he admitted himself, he has "gone back to the old Miguel". A thoughtful, slick boxer who is patient and one of the most beautiful boxers to watch in the world.

I agree, he does have wobbly whiskers though. Someone like Paul Williams would havea strong chance of beating him legitmately. Personally i'd like to see him pound the **** out Margacheato.

I think any time you get two fighters of a simiilar standard in the ring anything can happen. I honestly believe that both Miguel Cotto and Paul Williams are future ATG and a fight between them would be an exciting one and 50/50 at 147.

With regards to Margarito I'd like to see Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto get in the ring with him again. I look back at the Margarito vs Williams fight and remember Williams getting off to a great start, possibly winning the first 6 rounds if not 5 of the first 6 and Margarito winning the next 5 to get back into the fight. Something tells me, with hindsight after the "loaded gloves" incident, that there was also something wrong with that fight as well and Williams deserves a lot of praise for winning the 12th round.

Thought Michael did very well myself , didn't look massively out of his depth until the inevitable body attack came, moved well, jabbed well . He did himself proud.
