I helped organised an inspirational event in Great Harwood, Lancashire yesterday evening with Spencer Fearon for the Youngster in Lancashire. He came all the way up to Great Harwood near Blackburn Lancashire, far away from his London location. I initially approached Spencer on Facebook and he went out of his way to make the event happen, being very flexible with the dates and his input . He even did the event for free!!!!! His only request was that we make a small donation to the Angus Lawson Memorial Trust. On the day, there were weather warnings and train cancellations, his determination to get here was great, his train got cancelled twice but he persevered to get to snowy Lancashire The crowd was a mix crowd from range of different ages and backgrounds . He inspired them over 2 hours, telling tales of his life and how is succeeded in many things and not to let anyone destroy there target or dreams. He talked about meeting different boxers and his take on the floyd mayweather vs pacquiao saga. His knowledge of the sport was amazing. He even conducted a impromptu boxing lesson with the kids. All in all, everyone had an amazing time. He even made himself available for future events without a moments of indecision The reason, I write to you are that this sort of event is a credit to the sport of boxing and Spencer Fearon is a credit to the world of boxing. This sort of events portray the positives aspect of your sport, inspiring the next generation, crossing cultural boundaries and most of all creating dreams for everyone.
Met him once and he was a top bloke did not even notice him at first. For all that loud mouth image hes a nice guy.
he has made himself available for future events which is a great gesture we need more people like him in boxing!!!
