You think Andrade and Mundine were GREAT wins? I don't.

If Hatton had spent his whole career defending a WBO title against very average opponents he'd be "up there" with Calzaghe. But he didn't, he did more than Calzaghe.

Defending an even lower title is more???

I don't recognise either title to be honest, but Joe's opponents were better than Hatton's, generally, throughout their endless, meaningless WBO/WBU reigns.

No, Hatton didn't waste 10 YEARS defending a title against nobodies.

Hatton was 26 when he fought Tsyzu.

Calzaghe was 32 when he fought Lacy. 10 years pissed up the wall. :-(

Yes and a 32 year old JC pissed all over Lacy and turned him into a *****.

Lets see what Hatton is doing at 32. The fact he (as you put it) spent 10 years pissing up the wall and still **** all over Lacy at 32 says it all.

 Yes of cause he did in your head. PBF schooled him and that is the only decent prime fighter he faced.

He will beat maligfaggot and then Pacman is going to do a better job on Hatton than PBF did. But hey in your books he faced PBF and Pacman and that makes him boxing great material.

And that is exactly my problem with Calzaghe. Why didn't he do it when he was 22, why didn't he try and get the biggest fights in the world at some point in the 10 years after he won the WBO?

I am annoyed with Calzaghe not because he's ****, but because he's good and he didn't show anyone until he was 32.

I like Hatton because the whole world KNOWS how good he is, he's proven he's #1 at 140 and he's proven he's not a welterweight and he's not the #1 p4p fighter in the world.

Hatton showed everyone what he is, Calzaghe hasn't. He's never fought a great fighter when they were great.

I think the world knows how limited Hatton is rather than how good he is.

Great fighters are few and far between. Ottke , Beyer and co were hardly greats and JC would have beaten them easily but German promoters (like FW) cling to titles like **** and do not like taking risks.

RJJ had moved up a division and I suppose JC was happy at SMW fighting what was put in front of him by FW.

Where are the likes of Lacy and Kessler on Hattons record ? Both natural SMW's and not past their prime.

Floyd had moved up a division, it doesn't stop great fighters fighting each other. But yes, Calzaghe was clearly happy fighting who FW gave him to fight. It's a sad situation.

But Hatton still spent four years defending a 'title' against bums - and earlier in his career was clinging to an inter-alphabetty belt for almost a year as well, for no apparent reason.

Surely a British or Commonwealth title shot should have occured then, instead of WBO mickey mouse titles.

He was promoted by FW, four years of that and out. You have to respect that.
Calzaghe waited til his last ever fight to leave him. :huh

Anyway, I don't want to drag this thread out any longer than it already is...

No - I don't see why anyone who defends a WBU belt for four years should be respected. His accomplishments since then most certainly merit respect.

I meant you have to respect him leaving Warren (and the BS title defences) for bigger things.

Ah - well in that case you are correct.

No doubt if Hatton was with SN throughout his career, he would be 48-0 (38KO's) and would still be IBF champion having defended against nobodies.

The Mayweather fight wouldn't have happened, his biggest fight would have been a mando against M'Baye, and after that a voluntary against Gavin Rees.
