Ricky Hatton is promising his fans "a barnstorming fight" in his light-welterweight showdown against Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Hatton will be back at the MGM Grand Arena where he lost his unbeaten record to Floyd Mayweather last year.
"I'm going to be all over him like a rash. I won't be taking any backward steps," said Hatton.
"The day Ricky Hatton fans leave a fight without being entertained is the day I hang up my gloves."
Hatton dropped back down a division after his defeat to Mayweather in the 10th round of their WBC welterweight bout last December.
And Hatton says returning to the scene of that defeat is hard.
"Whenever I walk through the MGM Grand the first thing that will go through my mind will be Floyd Mayweather knocking me out, but there is not shame in that," he added.
"He was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, possibly of all time, but this training camp has made my confidence go right through the roof and I am not thinking about the Mayweather fight.

"I can understand why people have maybe said Ricky Hatton is past his best but I think they might be writing a new script come Saturday.
"I'm still going to be the same old aggressive Ricky Hatton but I have polished my performance a bit in some areas and I expect that to be the difference come Saturday."
A year on, Hatton is now being trained by Mayweather's father, Floyd Mayweather Snr, and he says the new training camp has "made me into a better fighter".
If he puts on a good performance at the weekend, a re-match with Mayweather Jnr could be on the cards.
"I wouldn't mind another crack at Floyd," he said. "I don't want to be an old man moaning in a few years' time about that fight, I'd rather he knock me out another time.
"If I have another cracking performance on Saturday then I will put myself in the shop window for another fight with Floyd.
"I'd like to fight either him, Oscar de la Hoya, Manny Pacquiao or Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez is one of the best fighters in the world and he has said he would like to move up a weight. "But I will only be in the firing line for these fighters if I put in a big performance on Saturday."

just stomach-churning stuff again from Wicky. So much for a down-to-earth lad next door :dead ........

Just a thought, but the fact that he's referring to himself in the 3rd person might have to do with the fact that there's a difference in his mind between "Hatton the act" - the entertainer/warrior who fights tooth and nail in front of tens of thousands and "Hatton the man" - the bloke down the pub who'll have a laugh and a drink with anyone, just like there is for all non-psycho fighters , even if they don't make that difference consciously or so explicitly...

...just a thought, as I said...wouldn't want to offend any budding phsychoanalysts out there...:!:

I cannot see any problem in anything of what he says myself.

I don't mind Hatton and hope he wins on Saturday but yeah that 3rd person talk usually stinks of someone with a very inflated ego and high opinion of themselves which I hate.

I've never bought into this "one of the lads" lark, the fact that he goes on about it all the time shows what bollocks it is.

Calzaghe is an example of someone who is down to earth as he doesn't crave the media attention and you hardly know much about his family apart from himself and Enzo unlike the Hattons.

A lot of boxers do it in interviews, it only seems to be a problem when Hatton does it though.

If you read that interview the third person isn't done in a fake, pretentious or exagerated way, the quotes makes sense, don't sound forced and are easy to read. If you wern't looking out for it like certain loons on here you probably wouldn't notice it or bother to start a thread on the <ahem!> "issue".

Anyway, if it suits people to get upset about it who am I to spoil their fun?

In any case, I think we overanalyse this aspect. We should also remember that he addresses the casual fan when he talks about fighting Mayweather, etc. He's a huge draw and these fights might actually materialise, so even if he's delusional about his chances, he's not delusional about his selling potential.

Most of us want Hatton to win, particularly against someone like Malignaggi, who got a couple of gift decisions lately, and is due for a bit of humility, so...why not give him a break for a bit and concentrate on the analysis...:good

Well I'm more worried about him and his brother calling Ben Tackie world class and sky saying his brother will be getting the big money fights in the US if he wins.

The only thing that really stands out to me is the fact that it now sounds like JMM is very much being considered along with Pac, and DLH. I've heard/read him mention Pac, and Oscar a fair bit in the past; but not so much JMM before.

You got your panties in a bunch.... over THAT?!?!?!

    Bit sad really isn't it?

I think the fact you've read it, knowing full well you hate Hatton, bolded the bits that irritate you, and then posted it on here points to a personality disorder. And I don't mean on Hatton's part.
