Haye, and Calzaghe have both absolutely trumped this lame interview (for shite) ten times over in the last month. Some of the stuff those two come out with at times really is total tripe! Having said that Haye seems to have toned it down of late...

"Possibly the best" was the quote. It seems a small difference I know but its typical of your tactics when posting on Hatton.

Who really gives a **** whether he says "Ricky Hatton" when referring to himself in interviews? As I said before a lot of top boxers do it but the usual suspects on here manage to stop themselves gettting too worked up about it and avoid posting here every time it happens.

If anything referring to yourself in the third person is an insecurity - and not arrogant in my mind.

Even if it isn't - so what - let him speak about that boxer "Ricky Hatton" who trains (disciplined), gets in the ring, and fights. A different creature from the bloke who goes on the lash, drinks, and eats all day.

When comparing it to the total rubbish the majority of boxers come out with, this really is nothing.

*When he talks in the third person he speaks about the boxer "Ricky Hatton" not himself*

Speaking in third person is right sometimes though.

"I'm still going to be the same old aggressive Ricky Hatton"
"I can understand why people have maybe said Ricky Hatton"

Both of them are right. He doesn't need to use it, but it's not arrogant to speak like that. Bernard Hopkins is arrogant when he uses it, and he uses it in the wrong context. Hatton doesn't. If he said:

"But Ricky Hatton will only be in the firing line for these fighters if he puts in a big performance on Saturday"

That would be both arrogant and gramatically incorrect, but obviously he didn't say that.

I can see where you're coming from but it's not a big deal. Who cares? It's not arrogance, he's just not a great speaker.

The Rock spoke in third person in WWE in order to portray his character as being an arrogant, egotistical, moron.

Hatton on the other hand, seems to use it I think to get his name out even more and to reiterate that he, Ricky Hatton, is exciting, that he Ricky Hatton, faced Floyd Mayweather and so on.

Very irritating, but perhaps clever marketing. You won't forget his name in a hurry.

He is sprouting alot of shite in that interview, quite common. He often tries to mislead those casual followers that make up his fanbase for the most part.

When he starts claiming that he is "superior to Lennox lewis" after beating Lazcano, and that he is a "legend killer" after beating up old shot boxers; then personally I will start to get annoyed. Otherwise I feel there is very little to feed off in that piece. It's just trawlers, seagulls, and sardines.

Joe stated the same about Roy Jones as well there is no excuse for it.

    No, Hopkins wasn't shot.

Anyway, back to this article - is it really that bad?

I think it's just snippets from it that give Betty more ammuntion for his agenda.

The guy has a point, Hatton has a way, like the pied piper, of leading a bunch of rabid Man City football fans on, where they will follow him no matter what the location, or who the opponent. Alot of it can be attributed to the rubbish he comes away with in such articles: the casual fans love this common everyman and will lap up anything he says and parrot it to the rest of the Man City fanbase...thus earning Ricky more pounds (the money kind)

Personally, I think a few of the comments are cringeworthy but no worse than what certain other boxers say to hype their fights. It's just that Hatton in particular, has a whole catalogue of quotes like that: misleading, exaggerated nonsense. And oh so often spoken in 3rd person.

Man, if only 'Our ricky' wasnt fighting Paulie Malig****inaggi, I could maybe get excited about this thread!!!

Hatton will beast this american moron, & then when the Hattonhuggers make their long awaited reappearance, then the fun and games can begin for real.

Paulie, famous for getting the beating of his life against a fighter so weight drained he looked like a skeleton, called Miguel Cotto.

& thats the truth Ruth. Dont let SKY fool you this will be competitive when you decide to subscribe. Be warned. SKY are selling this fight like its competitive like Steve Bunce is trying to tell the world that David Haye really does have a chin.

    Yup, its that bad fellas!

yeah i can understand the disappointment concerning the opponent.

malignaggi looked so poor against ndou.

he didn't deserve a big fight off the back of that. :bart

thought he boxed well against cotto mind.

cotto took over down the stretch in that fight.

but he did give cotto a few problems that night. :bbb
