Ricky said he had it agreed with Warren that Jnr was in his contract to fight him within 3 fights at one stage and it still didnt happen. I never said Ricky hasnt fought better or better known competion since he left Warren, this thread is post Tsyzu, in those 5 years previous (which is a considerable amount of time) when the fight could have been made and would have meant something to both fighters. The offer you mention of a 50/50 split I read at sometime that this isnt accurate or even near correct (I couldnt say either way) but that Jnr wasnt even given an offer. I dont believe that Jnr really asked for a 50/50 split. Hatton was the bigger draw & I remember Jnr saying he would take the fight for short money, and I do believe him. Do you really think Jnr would have let the fight slip away if he was offered 60/40 or even 65/35 when it would have been good money for him. But the fight would sell if it was Hatton against Witter cause its a fight alot of people wanted. What do you think would have a bigger audience Hatton vs Stephen Smith or Hatton vs Witter so the sales would also have something to do with Witter also even if hes not a big attraction in general
Looks like you've answered the question yourself pal. Witter needed Hatton, not vise versa. Would have been nice to see, but not the end of the world in my eyes coz i think it would have made for a horrible fight.:good
It wasn't as if it was the only all-British fight that didn't take place around that time, and it wasn't as if Hatton was the only one making a lot of money out of defending a meaningless WBU title. Somebody must have made a right killing out of that organisation - THEY were the real winner in this. I suppose it's one of the reasons why boxing fans, mainly the Yanks, take the **** out of our fighters, because many of them stay at home defending moody WBO 'world titles'. In this instance it's a bit unfair to get on Hatton's case for going to the States, likewise Khan who is doing the same. Granted Hatton clearly had someone behind him, such as his dad, that knew what they were doing and the market value of him with his history of packing out venues here. But that said, he's the one getting smacked in the face, why allow a promoter to cream loads of the top for doing next to nothing?
all these people who critisize hatton for just being in the game for money and ducking witter, firstly pro boxing is about the money, if not stay amateur, secondly hatton has fought the two best of his era even if he has fell short hes fought teh very best
Very true but you will never get most of the people here to change their mind. Also alot of Witter fans have selective memory, because unless im wrong Witter turned down a fight with Eamon Magee, so in hindsight Witter was ducking Magee.
witter has always been held back by lack of fanbase, he has exceptional talents but its all about putting bums on seats and his style and some people say attitude has prevented him from doing so. did he turn the fight down with magee before or after magee had fought hatton??
i don't see the point in another topic like this, but hatton ducked witter, it was so obvious that you got to be delusional to not realise it. what i must add though is hatton went on to fight better fighters, but it's no shame to lose to the likes of floyd and paquiao, which is not the same losing against witter.
Cant be asked. Talking to Hatton fans is like talking to a rock. Most of them are only aware of his career post Kostya. Much like those redneck Republican voters you simply cant say a bad word about their boy even if the truth is staring them in the face. Matters not as history wont be kind to Hatton. When all i said and done and his career dissected history will paint a VERY different story.
No thats not true its about the glory, Mike Tyson was never an olympic champion yet he has been the biggest name in boxing since 1986 - present. if you want to be remembered than you have to become a professional champion. For example look at Teofilo Stevenson won 3 olympic gold medals yet only boxing fans and the people of Cuba know about.
This isnt disputed. The question was about not fighting Witter in the 5 years leading up to the Tsyzu bout
That could also be so. The question was about Hatton not fighting Witter in the 5 years leading up to the Tsyzu bout
This is pure nonsense. Look at the way FW promoted both fighters when they were both fighting for SN. Hatton was the crowning glory of his stable and got far better treatment. I mean you've got to be a pretty special fighter to make half a mil at the M.E.N fighting cans to the merry tune of the WBU right??!?! Those fights were the equivalent of Apple selling mice and telling their fans it was a new invention for the PC. Warren carefully guided the kids career magnificently avoiding ANYONE who was a potential stumbling block. Why on earth do you think he held onto the WBU for so long? Why do you think Hatton purposefully avoided mandatory shots at the EBU and WBO when he was Corley and Otkays mandatory? His career was marketed under the auspice of World title boxing with the most amount of reward for the least amount of risk. When he was beating up those cans at the M.E.N his fans actually thought he was a world champ!!!! But then again so did Ricky!!!!?!?!?!?!?! Witter on the other hand annexed the Lonsdale Commenwealth and EBU. Established himself as the best in Europe. Went on to win world honours with the WBC title all with the full blessing of Hennesy who dont have a fraction of the economic might that Sports Network have. People seem to forget boxing is a game of numbers. Warren knows how to make fighters and himself rich. Hatton knew how to play that game. Witter didnt. On that basis alone Hatton should have continued to get paid and kept his mouth shut. But he didnt. He spun all his shill a merry yarn about being an average lad who looked out for his fans bla bla bla and then charged familys £100 to watch him get embarassed by Lazcano.
Also the latetest rumours that Hatton was charging punters £50 to have a photo with him shows what a greedy disgusting money grabbing mind he has :-( £50 for the average guy to be photoed with a guy who is already a multi millioanaire. :-(
You could understand if he was a retired old pro just trying to stay above water. But Ricky is a multi-millionaire. He doesnt need anyones cash. But his fans are more than willing to play to the charade and hand it over.
