Bit of a rant her but from reading this forum lately it seems that there is a growring divide between the Calzaghe and Hatton fans which I think is pretty sad really. It's like you have to belong in one camp, Calzaghe or Hatton and it seems a lot of people in one camp can't help but knock down the achievements of the other. Even some respected posters like former pro boxer Jeff Thomas has resorted to digs at Joe which is uncalled for really. (the punching style, resume) whilst neglecting to mention the many many positives of his career. The same goes for the anti Hatton brigade with their digs at his slightly annoying personality at times with the p4p talk and the fact that he got beat by the best boxer of our generation. I think we should all just accept that they are both modern day greats who have done the UK proud in recent years. Rant over!
modern day greats....... Calzaghe probably had the potential to but we all saw what he did for years. As for Hatton, he falls waaayyyy short.
They are not British modern day greats??? Well who is then? You have to measure their achievements to other British fighters in the same era.
Lol.... you **** for single-ing me out..... Both are tremendous fighters ... i'm less endered to Calzaghe due to his often horrible showboating and respectable posters over enthusing his ability and echievments...... and I probably over-rate Hatton.
Good post, i aint around enough to notice the outright types, i thought we/i/everyone expected this generally. U seem Pro Cal, i notice.........no i dont care. Modern day greats............yessssssssssssss, they both have brought a lot of boxing to my "table" Again.....good post :good
No problem mate, I do come across a bit harsh to Calzaghe but he's a good fighter, thats indisputable, I just argue about how good.
Though I've knocked Calzaghe, I give him credit where it's due - but like Jeff I think a lot of people go overboard, but I have to say Hatton's fans generate a far better atmosphere at his fights. I've been to loads of Calzaghe fights dating back to his amateur days and was there for his big ones against Lacy and Kessler too. However I was also there for Tszyu-Hatton and the electricity in the air that night was something else. It's perhaps my best memory in boxing. Not so much the fight itself but the atmosphere. It was pure magic. Joe has never managed to inspire the crowd to that level, but to be fair I don't think anything else has either. Anyone who was there will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, screw Calzaghe, screw Hatton - Audley rules!
