Where have I said Witter was a boxing god? I havent but did note Hatton avoided Witter

 

Its easy to do with any career if you put your mind to it. Usually though it just mean you're biased and not judging a career objectively or fairly.

 

So let's say he did, most fighters can be accused of not meeting someone. If he'd have spent his career protecting his unbeaten record I'd think it more of an issue.

Mayweather, Pac and Kostya Tszyu are good enough for me. If all of our boxers faced that level of opponent in their career, we'd all be a lot happier. Sadly, very few of them ever will.

 

harris had the title when he was offered the 750k in autumn 2004

he didn't lose the title until the carlos maussa fight in 2005.

mitchell sat on his ranking cos he wanted a fortune to fight hatton.

 

The thread is about Hatton. If it was about Witters im sure Witter would get some stick.
I think its fair to say Witter wasnt built up like Hatton. Do you think Hatton would have been fed to Judah before he had, had 20 fights? I dont, as Hatton was being built as a feature.
No Witter didnt have the same career as Hatton, but alot of that was down to opportunities and Witter at one stage was rated as the top man after Hatton, and Hatton didnt want to know.
Lets remember in 38 fights Hatton was still only a WBU champ and British champ (a belt he relinquished to avoid Witter in my opinion). Witter in 38 fights had been British, Commonwealth, European and WBC world champ

 

What other British boxers faced the quality of the likes of Mayweather, Pac and Kostya Tszyu?

Calzaghe? NO! Froch? NO! Lewis? NO! Benn? NO! Eubank? NO! Haye? NO! Khan? NO!

Yet folk still rip into him for the quality of opponent he put himself up against. It's clearly something more than to do with boxing.

 

Its all opinions I guess Bailey but the dodgy thinking comes when people start saying (out of thin air) that Hatton probably didn't want to take fights he actually took or that he saw Mayweather as an easy option after the Oscar fight.

Shows unnessarcery bias IMHO.

 

When Hatton fought Pac, Pac wasnt as highly rated as he has become.
Calzaghe has a far better record than Hatton, no question, same as Lewis. Benn and Eubank also

 

i accept many criticisms of hatton's career.

To say I think Hatton was pressured into the Mayweather fight isnt bias. I have defended Hatton on other threads, just think he is an ego and noted my opinion.

 

Of course he has an ego, a lot of top fighters do. Only seems to be problem for certain people with certain fighters though...

I remember him having a pop at Mayweather after the JLC that caused the fight to happen (Mayweather saw his arse and told Elerbe to make the fight). That Mayweather saw Hatton as easy money probably also had something to do with it!

The crap in this thread about the Pac fight is along the same lines. He took the fight but didn't really want it after he saw Pac-Oscar? Sure......any evidence?

 

Wasn't he the one calling out Floyd?

Either way, it doesn't matter, he ended up in that ring, personally I'd love to see a few more of our fighters willing to get in there with that quality of opponent. I think it's something that should be applauded and encouraged, not ridiculed.

No one's going to defend Hatton's WBU days, I've not seen anyone attempt to do so, or claim Hatton's career was faultless, it very clearly wasn't, he himself doesn't claim it to be either.

However, compared to the way some of our fighters have behaved in the past, I can only applaud him for taking on Floyd, Pac, Zoo, just as I do Haye for fighting Wlad, though he took his time. We need more of that in boxing and less plastic alphabet soup title defenses, of which yes, Hatton was guilty of too for a time, but came good in the end.
