I wasnt rickys biggest fan but i love that body shot against castillo. It was trademark billy graham and when they split he lost that shot. Go on you tube and watch a young hatton vs tony pep to see body shots/ricky hatton at there best. Ricky was a great fighter but b level behind the elite but therers no shame in 2 loses to pac/may.

No shame in achieving what he did and falling short against the very best. However, can he really look back in old age and say he gave it his all in boxing. He wanted to live the party lifestyle a lot of young men do in their 20s and early 30s, but also be a professional sportsman. I never understand that. In football, boxing etc it's a short career, so why abuse your body in such a way?

He gave it his all. he wasnt cut out to be at 147. Wish he would still come back and win and go out on a winnign note but im glad he is getting healthy again.

Think about it, imagine going through your late teens to your early 30's without living a fun life, never going on boozing holidays with the lads, never eating junk food, never doing drugs and shagging random birds........you never get those years back, he enjoyed the fame, the fortune and had a great social life in his prime years. I'd say that's pretty good going, he never lost to Manny or Floyd/Cortez because of his lifestyle, he was simply out of his depth.

Beats early nights and shitty health food everyday in my opinion. Life is for living, not just working.

I get what you're saying, and he was only doing what we all do/wanna do/have done at that age, but it's the mentality I think. It's the same in football. British guys want to drink, do drugs, party and shag a load of birds, even if they are professional sportsmen and earn **** loads of money. However, when your body and fitness is earning you that living, and you have a short career, surely giving it your all means keeping in shape and avoiding the crazy stuff. There is still time to do all that when you retire in your 30s, and at least you could look back and say I put everything into my career in sports. That's the sacrifice you need to make at that level, and is done so by others, for example footballers on the continent.

I'm not saying Hatton would have beaten Floyd or Manny even if he was always in shape, but I'm sure it wouldn't have helped.

Freddie Pendleton, too. He was knocking out the likes of Pep (went distance with Floyd) and Pendleton with body shots when he was about 21-22. He was such a great prospect.

That early Hatton against Vince Phillips, Ben Tackie and Ray Oliveira - those guys had the highest punch outputs in boxing but could hardly get anything off against Hatton because of Hatton's timing in getting off first and hand positioning (gloves together at stomach height) making it almost impossible to know what punch would come, never in defensive posture. He was extremely skilled in these fights, with the disadvantage of short reach in mind. I think the pre-Tszyu Hatton would beat up the post-Tszyu Hatton all day long. The lifestyle clearly caught up.

Floyd Sr isn't one for side-stepping which Graham was big on and Hatton was great at. Neither is Floyd Sr big on moving in and out, which Hatton was very good at and Graham advocated for him (with his smooth feet and short reach). But Hatton's boxing skills improved under Floyd Sr in the sense that he out-boxed a pure boxer in Maliganggi without many backward steps and with many straight punches, and that he counter-punched Pac very well - he just led with lunges when Pac was standing on the edge of range (believing he was too big and powerful).

Mayweather Sr .didn't have enough time to revamp Hatton plus that style may have not been suited for him..We saw the results .

Good point. He did it all, make a **** load of cash, and left the sport before he took too many punches.
