Article from Manchester Evening News I think that's him and Calzaghe on the list of saying that...both are now promoting lets hope they will stick to there words and serve up only the best fights they can for the public with there fighters.
Although the politics of the sport do get in the way often, it doesn't mean that boxing is dying. And while MMA is growing in popularity, it is far from taking over boxing. And I'm a big MMA fan. Not to mention they are different sports. I don't think MMA's rising popularity is 'taking' fans from boxing. Most fans of MMA I know of are fans of both.
That's like a kid getting rousted on the playground and saying "I don't like this game anymore", taking his ball and going home. As for Matthew Hatton...he's in a position where he should agree contractually to go bulimic for a month and wear a tutu over his trunks for a chance to get in the ring with a name like Judah... As for heavyweights peaking in their late 30's...well...:yep Some can fight on at that age, yes. That's not when they peak as a matter of course, though.
your both spot on..not impressed by his comments and not to shocked that he said something like this either.
What a goon. If Matt Hatton hadn't hung off his coattails for his entire career and forged a career that would suggest he even deserves to compete with a world reknowned name like Zab Judah he'd have a point. As it is, IB is 100% correct and Matt Hatton should take the running machine and place it in the sauna.
I hate to say this as a Hatton fan...... But isn't he the guy that made 5 defences of an interalphabetty strap, then 15 of a WBU? STFU and sort it out then!
I think that Craig Watson deserves a shot at Judah more than Matthew Hatton..... :yep If he wants the fight bad enough he can shift 4lb no trouble....I think this is a case for Hatton not to be seen rollin over at their requests...:good
''Boxing is now full of people who talk the talk, but don't back it up." I honestly don't believe Hatton said this
I think we all know the current state of boxing. Let's hope that other divisions follow the path of the SMW Super Six Tournament and get people interested in the sport again. Yes, we all love the game but we all know that the 'casual fan' is walking away. 'Politics' have been the scourge of boxing for too damn long. Shoot all the promoters and have a central, non-profit organisation that match the best against the best and pay them what they deserve?
I think atm boxing is starting to lift it's self bit by bit. Were starting to some huge fights lined up and ok we had the terrible month of June this year but with the Super Six and also the amount of top class boxing coming up i'm really looking forward to it. We know there's a problem with the way the sports going with the tv networks over here etc but to say it's dying is over dramatic and not needed. We already have enough people shitting on our sport at the best of times we don't need our own doing it as well.
