His dad was out of order for confronting him like that, and Ricky rightfully had him arrested. When you are 33 you are your own man and make your own mistakes.

This has been confrimed by the bbc:

Police confirm Ray Hatton was arrested for attacking his boxer son Ricky on Thursday: "[He] was arrested on suspicion of common assault"

The assault happened after an argument outside a gym in Hyde, Manchester. Ray Hatton was "subsequently given a police caution".

I think Ricky still has a lot of inner demons. Ray always seemed to have his head screwed on so there must be some real beef between them.

One of the best things Hatton had going for him was the close knit nature of his camp, then it began to unravel when he moved away from Billy Graham, the partnership with Floyd Sr. was always going to end in tears and now this?

I can't see any real success with this comeback, especially not at world level anyway.

Its only described as common assault, that can be as simple as placing a hand on someones shoulder without their permission.

This is making something out of nothing...........

I think a father being arrested for assualting his son in any way, shape or form, is a big deal.

I agree that a bonafide assault is a big deal, and of course I'm not defending that.

All I'm trying to do is point out how easy it is to jump to conclusions with the word 'assault'.

    A hypothetical example to illustrate..............

A father and son are talking about the sons excessive drinking.

The father is pleading with the son to change his ways because he doesn't want him to ruin his lfe.

The son doesn't like what he is hearing and goes to leave.

The father begs him to stay and as the son is going out of the door the father puts his hand on the sons shoulder to turn him round and face him.

    Bang! Common assault!

Is this example really a big deal?!

I appreciate that this is a pretty simple little example, but the point I am trying to make is not to jump to any wild conclusions.

Its 'The Sun' for ****'s sake! Do you really believe it?!
