Anyone watch the Hatton doc on sky docs last night ? Really enjoyed it especially the clips of his younger days, his old man comes across a bit of a tit though
I watched it, most of it I knew already but it was good to reminisce and also get a different perspective on things. I liked how they managed to get Billy Graham's side of the story involved too.
Fantastic documentary. His old man is a ***** and a thief. I don't believe a word he says about a trust, if that was true he would have just been able to show the paperwork and the money sat in an account. Plus he would have set it up out of the money after paying Billy, proper cnuts trick that especially when he started saying that Billy should have been happy getting less because he was connected to Ricky ignoring that Ricky reached that level because of sacrifices both sides made.
Watching it just now. Great watch. Hatton was a class fighter that probably should have achieved more from a cv perspective. Warren held him back for too long. Ray hatton was correct in that billy was slowing down by the time they got to the end. Billy was a tremendous coach as well....they just had the difficult position of billy slowing up with the pads but him still being integral to ricky hatton with rickys biggest nights in front of them. Floyd senior was a horrible choice. Good coach as well. He actually got hatton in incredible shape but doing that he mentally wrecked him and didnt really rate or understand hattons style of fighting. Would never have worked but bringing someone like mayweather into camp would have been ideal with billy still in charge. Mayweather actually taught him some good things.....he just completely didnt really entertain rickys own style. Ray kidding himself on regarding billy graham. Billy was as much of the ricky hatton story as ricky was. Ricky, billy, ray, carol and everyone involved should take a minute tho. They got to the top of the tree from the bottom. They all made bags of money had some tremendous nights and will be remembered for years to come. They fell short at the pinnacle....but bearing in mind ricky drank like a fish....had a trainer that was slowing down too much...a manager that was totally inexperienced a promoter that was a bit unscrupulous and a weight division that had 2 of the best of the generation fighters....it probably went better than expected. Would like to see ricky move on from it all in the next few years. He was a terrific fighter. He could have and should have finished with a better cv. But it was close enough. He could have went down as better than hes viewed in britain. Not because hes not viewed highly....more because he really was that good. Just didnt quite get there because of some bad choices. It was good enough tho.
Fan base was my greatest achievement Joe Cortez spoilt my game plan I fell down the stairs Dad nicked my money Depression Winning the second round by a country mile Broke tzyu’s heart Cocaine and alcohol not watched but something tells me that pretty much sums it up
My old boss’s firm made this doc, he does a good job even though it’s mostly old material. It won’t be aimed at boxing fans though so will please people who didn’t know the story. Moral of the story as always, money ruins careers.
Money doesn't ruin careers. It depends on who is in receipt of money. Money and idiots do not go well together. Especially low educated, stupid people, who attracted to many material things and drugs, bad lifestyle behaviours.
