First off, let me start by congratulating Pacquiao. Pac truly embodies the term p4p. He worked his ass off for this fight, came in very well prepared and executed and an excellent gameplan. Pac has earned his position atop the p4p rankings and Mayweather or anyone else are going to have to come and take that position away from him. Now on to Hatton. Hatton is a complete fraud. He whined and cried after his first loss about how the ref and the weight caused him to lose pretty much every round, not land any significant punches and get knocked out. He also tried to blame is friend and longtime trainer. Now we see that the problem is Hatton. Hatton's career has been carefully managed. When he actually had to step up and fight some prime, elite comp, he got destroyed both times. Look at that fight last night, Hatton was knocked out by a counter hook that Pac threw from his hip. Ricky didn't even see that punch coming. A true elite fighter shouldn't be making mistakes like that. This guy just walks right into punches. Now that his puch resistance has erroded, he's seriously ****ed. Hatton needs to retire. If he is going to continue to fight, he should stick to fighting lower tier fighters and leave the elite guys alone.
I don't think he is a fraud but you bring up some great pts ..He made such fundimental mistakes any boxing trainer would have been puking after seeing them ..
I wouldn't say his whole career has been a fraud but this fight truly was:yep Perhaps Tszyu really did get old over night or just took him too lightly. Mayorga had a similar career
look hatton had a bad trainer in billy graham who only focused on his bull style tactics and never his boxing ability he spent 10 years jumping into shot, and bullish tactics which can only get you so far until you fight the real best in which they easily take you apart like juan diaz and fighters like that, he is a 1 trick pony and unluckly it didnt work for him at end
Good points. He did throw Billy Graham under the bus after the Mayweather fight. So he hires a world class trainer to replace him and he still gets schooled.
I would not call the man a fraud after losses to Floyd and Pac at all. I mean, sure he lost to Floyd but most were saying he probably gave him his toughest fight yet (besides Castillo I).
BigReg you are spot on. Hatton has never been that good, end of story. And the fact is that Pac has proved once again that if you are not that good, you are gonna get your ****ing ass whipped like you don't belong, even if you are the bigger man. You remember my thread who's better Hatton or Mosley? god damn how blind people can be. And to talk about the Tszyu win. I mean that win was BS, the ref was a hack, and if that fight happens on neutral ground, Tszyu wins it hands down. he's a good fighter, but considering all the **** that was being spewed from Hatton and his fans, and the way he was hyped, "fraud" is the right term. He's a good fighter but not an elite one.
Hatton is not a fraud, he obviously came out a bit too excited and ended up being the Ricky of old and got knocked out as a result he rushed everything. Not only that But I am starting to think that Manny Pacquiao is one of the very very few ATGs that is on his way up, and when I say ATG I aint talking like a Mayweather Jr ATG I am talking like a Louis or a Robinson ATG. Honestly I think Pacquiao beats Mayweather Jr at this point, in common opponents Pacquiao has shown that he knows exactly how to get the job done in there...
Hatton is no different than the other British fighters that when they step up they usually get knocked out and brutally too. There are a few exceptions like Calzaghe and Lewis but other than that they have been an overrated bunch.
Fraud is going a bit too far. He's not at the elite level, just a step or two below that. He had a good career, but his style lent itself to deterioration of punch resistance. Not a fraud, just not as good as some thought.
You are being way to harsh. No way is Hatton a fraud. He just ran into the wrong fighter, a fast, mobile southpaw who can punch. A nightmare style wise for Hatton. Ricky Hatton has had a hell of a career. Look at it the way, (and I think this is safe to say) He has had a better career at his chosen profession than you, I or anybody else on this site.
