Hatton won't pile on extra pounds

Ricky Hatton will not make the same mistake of adding extra weight for the sake of it ahead of his dream super fight against Floyd Mayweather, according to his father Ray.
The Manchester 'Hitman' laboured to victory when he moved up from light-welterweight to beat Luis Collazo last year.
He had a close shave against Collazo and Ray Hatton said: "When we fought Luis Collazo, we made a mistake.
"We tried to make him as big as the guy he was fighting. When you only have a stature of 5ft 7in there are limitations of what weight he can put on before it affects him.
"We slowed him down. His body was carrying more weight than what it was used to when it was put under exertion in a 12-round fight, so his performance dropped off.
"I caused a lot of confusion a few weeks ago when I said that Ricky Hatton wouldn't be fighting at welterweight. What I actually said was that he may be fighting for titles at welterweight."
Hatton's father has been in talks with the Mayweather camp over a potential superfight for as long as 18 months.
He added: "He'll be coming in the ring as a light-welterweight fighting a welterweight.
"We won't to be putting on weight he doesn't need. We've made that mistake once; we won't be making that mistake again."

Mayweather did the same to Oscar - coming in at 148 - instead of 154. And we see how that worked out for him.

However - 140/147 - it doesn't make a difference - the kids still loses to Mayweather. I just think he'll perform better around 140.

What difference does it make? He will still weigh just as much as or even more than Floyd on Fight Night.

It's a smart move for Hatton- he'll need all the quickness and stamina he can get for this one.

Good, then certain posters can stop all the talk about how Hatton is at a disadvantage going into a fight with Mayweather at 147. We all know that Floyd would be just about the same size for a fight at Light Welter as he will for the fight at Welter.

If mayweather would go in at the same weight as he would of at light welta dose this not give Ricky the slight advantage of not being slightly weight draines before the fight? Before the JLC fight he was still training hard the day before the fight to shift a couple of pounds,he would not have to worry about this as much and can save some much needed energy.

No difference at all as Hatton has to drain weight to make 140 and gets in the ring at 150 lbs. There shouldn't be any excuses because of the weight.

You've just exposed the logic fallacy of many posters on this site and apparently team Hatton on this topic. The case of Hatton's ill-fated move to Welter is the only time that I've ever heard of a boxer getting apparently completely shedding his P4P status because he had a few pounds less to boil off before the fight. It's a bull**** excuse for his performance against Collazo. Mayweather isn't a natural 154 like Luis, and has weighed (in ring) pretty much what he did for his fights at 147 as he did at 140. So the notion that Hatton is at a disadvantage going into this fight because he has less alcohol weight to burn off is farcicly stupid to me.

Redgardless, if team Hatton is planning to train like they do for a fight at 140, then the excuses and criticisms of this fight should end now.
