IMO Hatton is more hype than great. I will give him credit beating Tsyzu but then rest of his resume is not all that impressive. Maussa and Urango are B level fighters. Jose Luis Castillo IMO was shot by the time he fought Hatton(Since losing to Hatton he has lost to Lujan a C+ fighter) Controversial win vs Collazo and Lazcano. Let us not forget Billy Ghram admitted that they lost to Collazo. His win vs Lazcano was tainted because of the shoe lace incident. Which leads us to his last fight Paul Malignaggi. A good fighter with no real threat to Hurt Hatton.

Simple answer to this really. Name 5 better 140lb fighters of the past 10 years.

I dont think the win against lazcano was controversial, he won near every round. His win against Collazo could have gone either way but the knockdown proved vital.
His resume could be better but i wudnt say it is hype, he has been the linear champ at 140 for years and he is still undefeated there.

Ive always thought that Hatton was the most overrated fighter to come up and be this popular in the history of boxing. But he is such a likable guy and he looked good in his last fight. He'll never be great or considered one of the greats

I love Hattons style and Charisma but I dont think he is as good as everyone thinks he is.

Mayweather, Cotto, Tyszu, Pacquaio, Judah and......

    Witter :yep

In all seriousness for the main part hes taken the path of least resistance, fought old men, lightweights and sub par opponents. Hes very good but certainly not great

I would say GREAT HYPE

Like David, but I like the fact that David is making waves, but the only splash that will happend in June is him bouncing off the canvas like a basketball.:smoke

****ing walked into that one didnt I.

Looking at it though he has been top of the 140 pile for a long time, and I feel would have had a much better career if he'd left Warren years ago.

Hatton may not be considered great in the level of Pacquiao and Mayweather but he is also not a hype. He is still an above average boxer considering that he never lost in his own weight class.

It is easy to be dismissive of any boxers achievements. Hatton has fought at a high level for a long time now and he has only performed badly at 147. Great fighter with ambition and clearly wants to fight the best e.g. Mayweather, Paq, Tsyzu etc.

Why do people say he is overrated? Overrated in what respect? He is the top man at 140 and he beat the top man in Tsyzu to get that title.

This is the point isnt it. He beat the man who really was THE man in a great fight so there is no argument about his credentials as the top 140ld fighter.

I think the fact that he cannot move up stops him being an all timer but that doesnt stop him being a great in his weight class.

He is not overhyped I agree..the man was undefeated before Floyd.. But he is very overrated. Think 2 years ago when he was about to face an old JLC. This was thought to be his second most dangerous opponent...that speaks volumes right there. Collazo agood fighter, tough fighter and most thought he lost. Shane is almost shot and still schooled Collazo, this is what great fighters do. And Shane is not as popular as Ricky
