Well said, Jeff. It seems whenever I log onto ESB there seems to be another anti Hatton thread started. Critisizing a fighter and expressing opinions is fine, in fact it's why I come here, but these threads are simply nasty.
The whole Junior Witter thing is now getting very tedious, yet for some here it seems an obsession. I wouldn't mind so much, but none of is even funny.

I agree jeff, ive had continuous debates about this subject on various other sites and it doe's my head in.........wether he is regarded as an elite fighter or happens to be an average one in the eyes of other boxing fans is always debateable depending what side of the fence your sitting on......but to call him arrogant, and a whole host of other one liners that drip out the barrage of threads posted lately............makes me wonder wether we are talking about the same guy,or if maybe there are two fighters out there with the same name.

    why?
I would not expect anyone to blindly go along with my assessment of a 3rd party.

by the way, I've never said Hatton is a **** or anything like that. So I would not be surprised to find him a good guy to hang out with.

my criticism of him is related to the sport, not what he's like down the pub.

Same could be said for your constant critism of Hatton.

Hatton does catch alot of flak on these boards.

Ive always thought he was a decent person...and unlike most as I posted the other day I had no real problem with his career up until Tsyzu(outside of a stragnant 2004) and feel he was brought along quite well.

However, since Kostya Tszyu I feel he has let his true boxing fans down and has taken fights in the knowledge that his casual fans will watch it anyway.

Denying us the Witter fight is honestly in my opinion denying us a British rivalry on a par with Eubank-Benn. It has all the ingriedients: two world class fighters, the two best in their weight class, differing styles and of course, years of build up and pent up anger and dislike!

Haye-Macca will be a war and entertaining but it doesn't quite have the same drawing power as Hatton-Witter.

This fight has to happen or in my mind it will be a blot against Hattons name forever more.

I would not listen to O ****er about anything to do with Hatton. Many people put forward decent well thought out reasons as to why they do not like Hatton but he is not one of them.

Hatton is a chancer that as beaten every opponent put him front of apart from maybe the best fighter currently on the planet and he is liked far and wide for being a genuine nice bloke.

That just ain't enough for some. If I hated a boxer as much as some do here, I'd just avoid any posts with him name in. It seems that any thread with Hatton's name (not started by a 'Hater') is soon hijacked by them and turned into the freakshow that it's become.

Great post Jeff, agree 100%. If you don't like Hatton as a fighter, fair enough (I am a genuine fan of the sport and hence can appreciate different styles and love seeing how they work out against one another). If you don't like him because he plays darts or has the odd beer or two, again, fair enough. But when it reaches the stage where you have to start a new thread with a completely negative outlook every time he comments on anything, has a pint, farts, breathes, every time his dad or trainer do the same then, for mine, it has reached the irrational stage. Having your say is one thing, ramming on about the same old negative points is another entirely. There are much more interesting and relevant topics right now. Haye-Mac is next week for christ's sake!!!

    Great post Jeff:bbb

As i have said a fair few times i am in no way a major Hatton fan, i am a fan, but what a couple of people on here are saying about him is out of order!

How anyone can say Hatton is arrogant is beyond me and as i say it is acouple of people on here whom i think have hidden agendas about their hatred for him.

Jeff Hatton is a good fighter in fact he is a very good fighter especially at what he does. That said because he happens to be very popular with a big fan base in England he is actually overrated by his fans and media.

Hatton has always had limitations in fact most fighter do. Hatton has been attributed with gifts he does not possess.

The fight with PBF was a case in point whereby the media and the British public and Hatton fans got sucked in really thinking that he had a genuine chance of winning. The enlightened realised he was ready made to order for PBF and would allow PBF to perform as he did against people like Gatti. Losing to PBF is no disgrace but the failure to fight Witter as you rightly point out is unjustifiable and indefensible.

I think Hatton is a great lad though I have heard him come up with some rubbish. I remember his Dad Ray saying after the PBF match was made that it would be like Good against Evil. To me that was uncalled for and crossed the line.

Hatton's behaviour in fight week of the PBF contest was very strange to say the least. As for his fans behaviour It would appear he attracts some unsavoury elements but that is not his fault.

In conclusion I would like to see more balance when people come to discuss him. Popularity or hatred does not equal greatness rather it is deeds in the ring that count.

I do think he was overprotected at certain parts of his career but that was not his fault.

All said I done he is someone I would love to have a beer with.
