I never said he was a joke. However, I never thought he was that good to begin with. He was pretty much protected in his first 40+ fights, and he struggled and lost when he finally stepped up in comp.
you are too harsh s.o.d. he is the best at his weight and have accomplised more than you could ever dream of. yeh it was a mistake for him to step up a weight ,but he was top of his weight class with nothing else to prove at that weight so he had to try stepping up a weight . i knew he would never beat mayweather all along as he struggled with the previous fights at that weight. but he is king at 140.
there's a lot of latter day boxing "fans" who go on about clinching, but really they know f*** all.look at any of the old fight films from the robinsons, walcotts and marciano's of this world and it was rife, only in those days it was called tying a man up,it was a legitimate tactic and they were all at it.hatton clinching against castillo? what were you watching? on saturday his opponent instigated most of the clinches.some on here should be watching non contact sports like netball and basketball.
this is the boxing forum, for those that can't appreciate a great fight, there is always the lounge, perhaps you should check it out :good
Absolutely spot on. Everytime I see someone harping on about clinching, I wonder if they have ever watched old boxing fights. Often they will have some old timer as there avatar and then you have to question whether they are a total fake who has it to try and look learned or just a hypocrite with double standards who is happy to lie in order to denegrate a fighter they dislike. Because anyone who has an old fight collection will know that what you said is 100% true. Hatton is not clinching and not punching, he clinches and then unloads shots. Sometimes he has clinched too much, but he always looks to throw bunches of shots and to work the body. People really need to go and watch Ali fighting Frazier in their trilogy and better yet go back and watch some Marciano era fights.
PBF would beat him even easier next time round. He was a much better fighter IMO when he fought Floyd, perhaps he underestimated Lazcano or hes just on the decline. I thought he telegraphed his punches too much, his punch resistance wasnt too great, his stamina wasnt that great either or nowhere as good before and his finishing technique is horrible. youd think once he got the guy on the brink of being KO'd he would carry on punching, instead he clinches as if he's the one in trouble. Hatton was elite for a few years but he didnt seem it against Lazcano.
Hatton is not a joke, but its clear that his best dys as a fighter are behind him. The Ref had to save him from a LW coming off a year and a half layoff. I cant see him giving any top WW any real problems, hell if he rematched Collazo - Id put money on Collazo stopping him.
