Fair enough. I'm genuinely curious why you believe this to be the case. I know Ricky backed off the fight previously, but he's at the ****-or-get-off-the-pot point in his career, and he has to take it this time. If he turned it down, the catcalling would be merciless. I agree Paulie is a tough fight for anyone, but I think Cotto and Hatton are too physical for him, and they'd exploit his lack of power.
First post to the board (long time lurker) and already I'm gonna have to put my flame suit on... but I agree with Tu Papa, and not because I'm a PM "nuthugger," although I am a fan of his- I think "ducking" might be the wrong word to use, but Hatton's definitely taking the "smarter" fight in PBF. Simply put, Hatton has MORE to lose and LESS to gain by fighting PM (a guy who presents a similar boxing style to PBF, albeit a lot less potent- and who is definitely very dangerous and could beat him). If he wins, so what? He was supposed to, it doesn't make him more attractive to PBF or any of the big names, and the payday will be considerably less. AND what if he loses? He probably NEVER gets that shot against PBF. Now turn it around... Hatton has MORE to gain and LESS to lose by fighting PBF right now. If he loses, so what? He was supposed to. Even if he DOES lose, he still gets a huge payday! If he (by some miracle) wins the fight, then that sets up a super huge rematch payday for him in the future and establishes his legacy in boxing... In sum, why would Hatton EVER want to fight PM right now (a fight he could certainly lose and ruin the prime/twilight, whatever you think he's in, of his career), instead of PBF?
Hatton must be the first fighter in history to take on the #1 P4P fighter in the world and still get accused of ducking
Apparently according to the logic of the original poster, you must face 20 fighters at the same time, so you don't get accused of ducking. Either that or he does not know the meaning of ducking.
Ever heard of the expression 'when in a hole, stop digging'? Your embarrassment is complete!!:scaredas:
All that may be true, but to me it sounds like a Sky is Blue argument. Why in the world would Hatton even consider fighting someone other than Floyd? We might as well discuss why Pavlik should opt for Taylor instead of Mora. I don't understand why any analysis is required -- it's stating the obvious.
Right, and some can misconstrue/that that to mean that to be he's (whether it's hatton, or pavlik) "ducking" another fighter, regardless of if it's true. The fact of the matter is, we will never know what's going on in Hatton's head, so it's useless to 'argue' about it. The real question here is when will PBF give Williams, Cotto, or SSM a shot? Instead of continuing to fight the big paydays that he knows he can win : )
