Ask him if he's sending Mayweather sr a Christmas card. Actually I got a better one. Ask him if he's seen his video on youtube. The "same mooove every time" one, and if so, what did he think of it? If he does carry on, the fight that makes sense right now is a fight with Amir Khan. That would be huge in the UK, and would generate good interest in the states too.
I don't have anything against Hatton but he is ****ing delusional. Me and a mate were talking boxing on Saturday, he is a Hatton fan, and he said that Ricky was beating Pacquiao in the 2nd round quite comfortably - I wasn't quite sure what to say..... Other than being buzzed by pretty much every punch he took in that second round, and being knocked the **** out, yeah it was quite close :-(
Hatton is quite a unique fighter. He arrived on the world scene off the back of a very carefully guided career. Despite his glaring deficiencies his fans and himself alike seem completely oblivious to this simple fact. The sheer amount of belief that surrounds this guy never ceases to amaze me.
Don't get it twisted Hatton was a great 140lb fighter but just didn't have the elusiveness or skills or chin to be able to move up in weight.
Great and Hatton dont go together. Dont kid yourself. Hatton was world class. Great? Not by a long shot. If great is based off beating a guy who had one foot in retirment then Phillips should surely be held in higher regard as he beat up a prime Kostya Tsyzu far better than Ricky did.
In order...... Great Brilliant World Class HOF Worthy (by current standards) Very Good Good Average ................ ........... ............. And so on....... Hatton is clearly in the 3rd bracket, below a Mayweather, who is in the 1st bracket, and above a Gatti, who would be in bracket 4. Nothing to be ashamed of, by any means, but nothing to be delusional of either. I'd say he had pretty much as good a career as his natural talent merited, beating plenty of decent guys and a faded Tszyu, losing to Floyd and Pac...... albeit making a disproportionate amount of cash.
