I'm glad he's retiring I didn't want to see him hurt. He's done well for himself made a shitload of money still got his health and above all he's a good guy. Glad he came to his senses maybe he relalised he wouldn't be able to shed the weight

I'm happy to hear this. It's obvious Ricky's best days are behind him, and he doesn't need the money.

He had an excellent career, made for good fights and got the most out of what he had. His lifestyle choices hurt him, but they also helped shaped his marketing appeal.

All the best in retirement, Ricky.

Hatton did well by becoming a legit world champion. Lots of fighters pick up belts but not many reach the top in a weight class.

Satisfied, after watching him from the start.

was never a fan of hatton and still am not, but this is a good idea. i could see JMM KO'ing him and why would he want to go out with two back to back KO's. The man never had the respect for the sport to actually stay in shape b/w fights....i found his style ugly and boring and it's good he's gone.

I was hoping for one more fight for Hatton, but whatever he decides and if he is retiring so be it. I loved the ride watching his career from (for the most part) the start. Watching his career from 2002 and not missing a live fight til now on Sky Sports or whatever UK sports channel that I got from the States back then was terrific.

I experienced all the highs and lows, in 2002 when he was just a prospect, then in 2005 all of a sudden everybody was a Hatton fan and jumped on the bandwagon. To now where Hatton doesn't get near the respect he should and everybody just kicks him when he is down at his lowest point now. He dominated the JWW division and established himself as an ATG at JWW, went up to WW and didn't have the success as he did at JWW, but he still took on all that big challenges and didn't back down from anybody.

Hatton will defo be missed, especially by me, and now that he may'be retiring I now just realize that all the fighters (or the big 5) that brought me into this great sport when I was a youngin at around 8 or 9 and started following in 1999 2000ish are now either retired, nowhere near the same fighter that they were or not even in this world anymore. (Morales, Barrera, DLH, Gatti and now Hatton)

    There's only 1 Ricky Hatton!

I think it's best he retired. I was saying he should of retired after he lost to Mayweather. He was built up on his unbeaten reputation and once that had gone, all the presence and fear he brought to the table against other fighter's had gone. The Malignaggi win was impressive to average viewers but when looked more closely, it was'nt hard to see Malignaggi was terrible that night.
Being English i don't mind Hatton but i think it's definetly time to retire, he's been hugely successful, made a lot of money and got a massive fan base considering he's stupidly one-dimensional. But the main respect i have for him, is unlike fighter's like Khan, etc who dodge people, Hatton never did. Always wanted to fight the best opponent available. He's had a good career but it's time he retired. Skysports have been going on about it all morning, so let's hope it's true

I hope his decision sticks.....he had said the itch was back for him to get back in the Gym......

He must have gotten back to working out, had a few sparring sessions, and decided he was'nt going to fool anyone......

Good luck to you Mr. Hatton!:good

It's for the best, he would have got a hiding if he went back in with a top fighter. Thanks for all the good times. You will remain one of the most likable chaps in the boxing game.

It's a shame he didn't lead a more disciplined lifestyle, he never would have beaten PBF or Pac but he would have prolonged his prime and would have given us great fights against Khan and Marquez.

Best of luck in the future Ricky. :thumbsup

He got his ass seriously beat in sparring before going on holiday for a stag do. He probably realises he hasn't got it anymore.
