Hatton beat Tszyu who was coming off of a destruction of Mitchell despite having a long layoff. He was stripped by the WBA and WBC for the inactivity but he was still de facto UNDISPUTED jr. welter champion of the world. There was talk of him having a case for #2 P4P (he was a COMFORTABLE #3 at WORST) leading up to his fight with Ricky, where KT was also a HUUUUUGE favorite on the betting line.

Then the losses to Mayweather and Pacquiao, who were both #1 P4P at the time of their fights.

1-2 against three fighters who were arguably either #1 or #2 P4P says a lot about the competition Hatton faced after getting rid of Warren in that they were IN THEIR PRIMES.

Calzaghe beat ONE P4P fighter his whole career...he also only FOUGHT ONE P4P fighter his whole career. Calzaghe fans point to Hopkins's subsequent win over Pavlik proving he was still in his prime, but was he really?

Pavlik had never fought at 170 before, much less 168 and was moving up TWO WEIGHT CLASSES to fight Hopkins, much like Marquez to Mayweather.

And no Calzaghe fans, beating an ancient Roy Jones who wasn't even P4P Top 40 when they fought doesn't count.

Calzaghe's best win over a prime opponent was over Kessler, and that win combined with his win over Hopkins gives legs to an argument that he was better.

But in all honesty, this is a matter of quantity over quality, as Calzaghe is one of the rare exceptions where a fighter with so many insignificant wins can make the Top 100 ATG (albeit on the bottom).

Calzaghe is the better fighter overall, and is ranked higher then hatton...

however, I feel 20-25 years from now fans perceptions will look more favorably towards hatton then calzaghe.....

hatton for his era was the ambassador of uk boxing around the world....and fans won't forget this....

calzaghe's legacy will continue to fall and fall as time passes...
