Hatton is the only fighter who didn't quit against FMJ/Pac above 135

I was thinking about this the other day, I think most of these would have got ko'd if they kept bulling forward like Hatton instead of going into a shell looking to survive and accepting defeat, lets look at this:

    Pacquaio

Clottey - just came to suvive and cover up, didn't try to win

Cotto - tried for 4rounds, then looked to survive

Delahoya - actually quit but gave up trying to win early

    Mayweather

Mosley - gave up against Mayweather and settled not to get stopped after he would get countered hard time and again

Delahoya - tried to win for the first half, kept getting countered

Judah - gave up trying to win after 5rounds and went on the back foot

Marquez - came to survive after figuring he couldn't outbox Mayweather

Baldo - I'm not even going to count him

None of those men took chances after they realised they would get hurt if they were going to have a chance of winning. They didn't dare to walk through their opponents punches to land their own. At least Ricky tried to win and went out on his shield

If Hatton would have quit after round one it would have been the most embarrassing loss ever, so i don't think we should really give him extra heart points for lasting til round 2 and getting slayed where he stood.

all the guys mayweather fought were shot to hell old, 2,3 divisions out of their element and OLD, zab has won maybe 3 out of 8 fights and baldomir was a robot with 9 losses

Hattons complete disregard for a gameplan in the Pac fight was bizarre.

I think the above is very true, regardless of the outcomes Hatton wanted to win until the left hooks landed.

The above fighters apart from Oscar knew they were in with men that were getting the better of them and just wanted to Survive.

I know it is to his own detriment by Hatton never stopped coming forward against both even though he was being outfought.

I think there's a difference between quitting and being befuddled and helplessly nullified (vs May) and being beaten into submission with no option but to try and stay on your feet (vs Pac). It's clear why they're consensus top two in the sport and it's not because they're only fighting quitters. I think this is a pretty unfair thread, mate.

In regards to fighting Mayweather, it's not that those guys (Oscar and Marquez) didn't take chances. Instead they tried to play more of a chess game with him. When doing this you're less likely to get knocked out. Unlike Hatton, who thought he could just bum-rush him face first.

To say those guys quit or gave up, is silly.

Playing a chess game with Mayweather is paramount to quiting though, you have to pressure him otherwise you lose. Hatton was the only 1 who kept the pressure up, coming forward and keep throwing, even in the 10th round

Agreed. He gave it his all. And got knocked out.

And look at what happened to him? Poor sod was knocked head-first into the turn buckle.

Playing a chess game is not quitting. Especially when it's pursued from the very beginning (which is what Oscar and JMM did). Would you say they quit from the beginning then? Of course not. And Oscar did pressure him. As did Castillo. They just applied a bit of intelligence in the process.

Oscar failed the way he did because he didn't have the stamina to keep up the gameplan (as well as Mayweather making a few adjustments), and JMM failed the way he did because he a) applied the wrong strategy and wasn't good enough to implement it, and b) he was a blown up light-weight.

They were out-thought, not made to quit.

And the fact that Ricky was sparked out by both these guys, isn't as simple as 'he tried to win and went out on his shield'. He got knocked out because he was stupid. Rushing in face-first is the only thing he had ever known. He was too limited to realize that he'll get sparked badly against elite opposition, to do anything different.

Befuddled and Nullified? You're having a nightmare.

  15. Hatton didn't exactly have a choice.
