Just a thought. A guy whose focus outside the ring tends to drift (albeit in a different way), in a fight against an outmanned opponent serving as a setup for a bigger fight. Chances of an upset here? I don't necessarily think it's going to happen, but it wouldn't shock me, either.
As a Hatton fan even im wondering what the **** he's doing even fighting this guy....HE NEEDS TO FIGHT WITTER!
Lazcanno is 34 and hasnt fought in over a year. Oh and hes a lightweight that wasnt that special in his prime
I stopped by the San Juan Gym in El Paso Texas, where Lazcano occasionally does some sparring about a month ago. He was there being a lazy ass, doing some half ass training. I really don't see him being motivated, but when interviewed, he talks like he's hungry. I really think he's doing it for the payday. I see him getting dropped, but he does have a fighter chance. A slim chance.
Lazcano is better than Baldomir and Hatton is coming from a KO loss, so comparing the stunning Baldomir upset to a Lazcano upset makes the Judah loss a winner by a mile. But upsetting Hatton in Manchester would be a big one as well... Lazcano is a tough kid who always comes to win.
Lazcano was considered the best fighter at lightweight without a title by a lot of people around the 2000-2002 period. He aint no mug, his heroics against a prime Castillo are something I wont forget easily. Gave Castillo a real close fight after getting hurt and his nose broken early. But he doesnt have anything Ricky hasnt seen before, and Hatton owns this weight. Judah crumbled mentally after getting hurt by Baldomir & not being able to deter him. He was subsequently manhandled by a bigger man. I think its a much different matchup Hatton-Lazcano, and I dont see it happening in this fight.
Hatton-Lazcano = bull**** fight. Castillo ruined Laz with the sustained beating he gave him a few years ago. Hasn't looked the same since. Hatton is no Zab Judah; he may blow up in between fights, but he is not a complete mental defective.
Hatton is a very strong character, and doesn't lose his head ala Zab, because he has people around him that keep him that way, such as his parents and trainers etc, whereas Zab probably had people on the payroll telling him how good he was and started to believe it. I can see where the comparison comes from, but Baldomir was very much in the background, whilst Lazcano is coming off a loss to a guy whom Hatton would totally destroy in Viv Harris.
Lazcano is limited, smaller, past his best and in it for the money. In many ways that makes him the identi-kit Hatton opponent. **** knows how Hatton keeps a straight face when talking like this.
He said 2nite that he wanted to give something back to the fans after the Mayweather fight. Bollocks!!!
