Got nothing to do with looking great or looking bad, what is has got to do with is the opposition he was facing. you guys don't know **** about boxing.
This pretty much. You do have to give full credit to Pacman for destroying Hatton at his best weight 140 unlike Floyd who did it at 147. I thought Hatton would take that one Manny proved me wrong. Amazing performance.
What difference would hatton fighting floyd at 140 have made? If anything it made it easier for hatton in the lead up for the fight, as he didn't have to cut so much weight, so he could focus on training rather than whether he would make weight. Add the fact that hatton fight night weight is always much higher than floyds your argument is bull****. Unless of course your hoping floyd would have been weight drained at 140. Which is the mindset of someone like pac, not floyd.:deal
Weight had nothing to do with it. He struggled at 147 because he actually faced some fighters who had skills.
exactly. this is ricky diary before the pac fight at 140 Ricky's Diary http://www.skysports.com/opinion/sto...267382,00.html I made the weight first time bang on 140lbs. After the weigh-in I re-hydrate and start putting my weight back on. I do this with recovery drinks and food and then it's back to the apartment for a big feast with all my team. By the time I get in the ring I will be about 151 to 154lbs. After dinner we played cards and the last meal of the day was a pizza before retiring for bed. ........................................... So ricky hatton puts on 14lbs after making weight at 140 Yet floyd get's bashed for fighting ricky hatton at 147 because 140 was his best weight in which he was winning his matches against inferior opposition. When he could easily be fighting at 147 without taking anything away from the version at 140.:deal Get the **** out of here with that bull****.
Exactly, Hatton was bigger man than Floyd. He came into the ring at Jr. welter heavier than Floyd's fight weight at WW.
Spot on. Hatton's tactic towards the end of his career was to just bully his opponents and at 147 he simply couldnt do that. It was a massive shock to him when he realised that May was stronger than him on the inside
He moved up to welterweight to fight Luis Collazo, who gave Shane Mosley problems; he won barely. Then he fights the greatest fighter in the world at the time and loses. Floyd admits that Hatton was the toughest fight of his career. Hatton wasn't any worse at 147 than he was at 140. You're only as good as the opponents you face. Collazo is better than 99% of Hatton's opposition at 140. Maybe Kostya was better, but he looked pretty drained that night. No question Floyd was the best opponent he had faced at the time. 140, he looked really good against fairly weak opposition. 147, he looked fairly bad against elite opposition.
Im sure Hamed would've done good at Welterweight as well.. he balloons in between fights and drains back to featherweight to fight...He would be at the comfort of not cutting so much weight:yep
Funny hatton struggles with collazo at 147, people say he looked like ****. Yet hatton put on a better performance against mayweather at 147 a much better boxer than collazo. In fact hatton performance against mayweather was better than the lineal champ baldomir, mosley and arguably judah.
Yea I know what you mean and I partially agree with you cuz you stated facts. Yes, Hatton like Gatti, Mayorga, and other bangers on fight night are weighing 15-20 lbs plus because they are punchers, but Hatton is a 5'6" 5 7 fighter at most you really think hes apt for ww? He was decent, but dont act like the guys he fought at 140 were bums like Urango, Malignaggi, and Tszyu cuz they werent. Collazo was just a stylistic nightmare not only for him but Berto too. But I think your missing the main point here which is Hatton was undefeated at 140 or vs fighters of the 140 division. As long as they made the weight on the contract they can come in any weight they want on fight night. Adding weight has its pros and cons. Anyway you see it because of Hattons frame you cannot tell me he is a natural ww. Fighting weight and walk around weight are two completely different things. If he weighs in at 140 and puts on 10 lbs thats less weight hed put on then if he had to make weight at 147. Hatton just never had size or style to be effective vs the 147 fighters. Again, Hatton was at his best and undefeated vs 140 fighters thats why Manny gets more credit for Hatton than Floyd does. Now for Oscar thats a different story Id give Floyd more credit for that one. Hatton used to bullying didnt work good vs bigger men.
imo callazo won the fight and tyszu was coming off a pretty long lay off due to surgery if i remember correctly, as well as being close to the end ironik really as hatton was not that far behind in being done to
