He was fine as a welterweight. However, he was much better as a jr. welterweight. At 147, he was defeated by Mayweather (like all of PBF's rivals) and barely beat Collazo. You have to remember that this was Hatton's first fight at 147.
His physical abilities didn't diminish with the climb in weight. He was stol the same ole Ricky in that respect.. but the fact that he fought bigger more skillful men is what ****ed him in the end. Not only was Hatton repeatedly running into punches from both Collazo and Mayweather, but he also tired from trying to wrestle around in close quarters with those bigger fighters. All which led to him tiring badly at the end of those fights and nearly being KOed by Collazo and then ACTUALLY being KOed by Mayweather.
hatton didn't put a better performance against floyd, he won 2 rounds at the most. you weren't even watching boxing then how would you know what was going on?
Pretty much everyone looks bad against Collazo. With that said he still managed to beat him and take his belt at 147.
you don't have to win a lot of rounds to put on a good display or a good showing. Example paulie v cotto. Augustus v mayweather. Lascano v hatton. Forbes v del la Hoya.
Didn't hatton drop Collazo in the first round? I would love to see scorecards for this fight. I remember Hatton winning this fight and I was rooting for Collazo. Collazo finished stronger for sure but I don't think he won on the points system.
- Hatton could not bully his opponents as they were stronger than him. - Hatton did not carry the pop he had at 140lbs upto 147lbs. - He looked slower and less able which kind of supports the above two points. - Some guys gameplans are based upon being bigger and/or stronger than there opponents, Hatton falls into that category as does guys such as Margo and P.Williams.
At 147,Margo would have destroyed Hatton.Destroyed him.Mayweather,a light puncher at 147,knocked him out.Collazo,an even lighter puncher at 147 than Mayweather, had him reeling at the end.Reeling.Margo walks right through Hatton and knocks him out in the 7th round.
I wouldnt say he looked bad at 147 . He's just not a big guy at that weightclass. And his style is swarming / bully style.
