Ricky Hatton (43-1, 31KOs), fresh off the first loss of his pro career, claims that Floyd Mayweather Jr. fouled him to death when the two fought last weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Hatton, in an interview with Daily Express , says the cut above his eye was caused from a Mayweather elbow, and referee Joe Cortez did nothing to stop the foul-filled bout. The fouls, according to Hatton, took him away from his strategy and eventually led to Mayweather knocking him out in the tenth-round. But if I am honest, I feel a mug. My pride is hurt more than anything else because I made the cardinal sin of letting my emotions get the better of me so I didnt fight how I said I would. I made the mistake of losing my composure. My head went a bit. Im not taking anything away from Floyd. Hes a great champion. And Im not exactly Mother Theresa in the ring myself. If I can get a sly one in there, crack in an elbow, Ill do it. Thats boxing. But he fouled the living daylights out of me in there, using his forearms and stopping me working inside," Hatton said. I got cut, too and that was from an elbow and thats when I lost my composure. Up to the halfway mark, I didnt think there was much in it. But Im disappointed that I didnt do the little, subtle things I said I was going to do to win it. Hatton does not place the blame with Floyd, he feels Cortez should take the weight of how the bout went. Cortez took a point away from Hatton in the contest, which the fighter claims was wrong becase no previous warnings were issued. He lost his head, and regrets bickering with the ref over the infraction. I believe that if you foul, you should have a point taken off. But you have to have a warning first and I dont remember being warned. I dont want to sound like a broken record going on. But, lets be honest, the ref was poor. Its his fault, not Floyds. And I dont think I helped myself by being typical Ricky Hatton and giving the ref a load of four-letter stuff when he came to the corner to talk to me. That didnt help. After I had the point deducted, I just went a bit gung-ho, thinking thats all I could now do, said Hatton. I really thought I could do this. I didnt say all the stuff I did just to make everyone feel better. I genuinely believed it and thought I could win. But I lost my rag and Floyd was so very clever.
Wow how sad of Hatton to stoop so low. If anything he was the one that was causing all the fouls by constantly grabbing and pushing and also hitting behind Mayweathers head INTENTIONALLY. I lost all respect for him now. He also says it was an elbow that cut his eye which is pure BULL****.
watch rd 2 ...cortez brought both pbf and hatton to the middle of the ring and warnde them twice about the wrestling
Guys... you really have to be crazy if you think that Cortez didn't ref this fight completely in Floyd's favor, and in the LEAST help Floyd along in this fight. As I stated before, I won money on Mayweather, so of course I was happy with the outcome, but we have to be honest with ourselves. Floyd was holding just as much, if not MORE than Hatton, it was even pointed out by the HBO crew. Floyd was also illegally dipping below the waist over and over, which is also a foul... along with the obvious elbowing, and forearms that landed at an alarming rate. I was watching the fight with a HUGE PBF fan, who was saying over and over again... "****, Floyd's gonna get his ass DQ'd with those elbows"... because Cortez had warned him several times. Then, after all of those warnings to Mayweather, Hatton swings a punch that Mayweather turns his back to... AND THE PUNCH DOESN'T LAND... and Cortez takes a point from Mayweather. Now... if you don't see a change in that fight, and Ricky Hatton from before the point deduction, and after the point deduction, then you are kidding yourself. It honestly seemed to me like the wind was taken out from under Hatton's sails, and he sort of fell apart after that. You could see him literally glaring at the ref during the action, because he was so damn upset about how Cortez was handling the fight. I mean, you could see him literally slapping Hatton's gloves away from Mayweather on several occasions. Mayweather would be holding Hatton's arm on one side, Hatton would be holding Mayweather on the other side... and Cortez would start slapping Hatton's glove off of Mayweather. It was awful. Cortez would pull Hatton off of Floyd at times, when they weren't even clinching. He involved himself WAY to much in this fight, and the manner that he did it certainly didn't help Hatton.
The only post in the thread that makes sense. Sometimes I think I'm going mad, but that's exactly how I saw it too. Not only me, but the HBO crew, as you mentioned, and also plenty of other people saw this too, including pro boxers (David Haye, for example). If you wanna know, look around the web. Type "Hatton Cortez" into a search engine and see what other people -people with much more weight behind their words than anyone else here- are saying. Right up until the point deduction, Hatton was leading on the cards. It's pretty much like the fight was fixed. Was Cortez paid off to protect Floyd? The saga continues...
